Hey You-All--
Just a quick Q..
I get 5-10 plays per day on myspace (I know that's not very many) but how do people even find it? An obscoure musician in cyberland with no apparent connections or references to anything? I dont get it. Do people just type in music from A to Z or something, or is there a method involved? Can somebody please explain this to me? Thanx!!
-steve

Visit your friends, talk to them. Keep posting new music so they have a reason to come back.
Check out their friends - if you like their music - talk to them and tell them - but you have to be friends with them before you yell them you like their music- so -ask.
This is networking.
Just make friends . . .
My song "Folks I Knew (If You Catch Me Crying)" was recorded with a girl I met networking this way (it's on my myspace page.). Just listen to her voice . . .
People find me all the time - I always have a waiting line of friend requests.
See, I won't accept every friend request; I always check out their pages first (I don't accept people who think they are vampires, for example, or people who's site is just plastered with half-naked women).
I don't have time to wast on that kinsa trivial b.s. - I just associate w/ real musicians, or fans . . .
I visit their pages, listen to their music, and leave a comment.
Other musicians see my comment, and some are interested enough to visit me.
They listen - and maybe shoot me a friend request.
I've met some phenominal musicians this way - and most of them are gigging all the time . . . some are playing restaurant, some are playing Las Vegas 5 nights a week, some are just recording artist, and some are just - great people . . .
Check out my comments section - you'll see what I mean - I'm always telling people which of their songs I like best, and why.
I chose friends who have similar musical interests to mine.

actually that's pretty good.
I have around 4200 fans and on a normal day (without inviting friends) I get around 30 plays a day. When I add friends I get from 100 to 250 or so; that is after spending several hours inviting new friends/fans. I have nearly 25,000 plays now, and I'm not sure if that really means anything or not. I was being approached when there were only 7000 plays, so who knows if a lot of plays makes that much of a difference? I've had bands invite me that have 250,000 plays, yet they dont have many upcoming gigs posted on their page. There is software and services available to add and play automatically too so who that can be the case sometimes I suppose. so I just enjoy the reward of knowing that my music is liked and appreciated, and don't really worry too much about other payoffs from the plays.

Thanks. I actually was just wondering why anybody found my music or how (or anyone else who's music is unknown) on the great ms expanse. I havent done much networking, so I was just wondering where these 5-10 plays per day are coming from? I have 7 friends, so I figured I'd get 7 hits + anybody here that's listened, so maybe 20-30 tops and then it'd fizzle to 0 and stay there..
Oh- and thanks for the friend request!!

I've heard that after a lot of work, some people's accounts get deleted by myspace or mysteriously disappear, so I dont think I'm going to work on it too hard or spend too much time on it..
ZXYX, I dont manage or even mess with that damned myspace.
Oh, and my handle isnt zxyx, it's zxwz, I mean zxzy, I mean zyxz.. oh forget it

Sorry bout that.
I had / have a myspace account that I cannot access. The myspace people dont care to be of any service so I no longer will have anything to do with them personaly.
The Bandmix staff however have never failed to respond when I contacted them. Often before and after addressing whatever my concern was.
Bandmix is a good site despite all what it's detractors say. Most seem to be card carrying members of the instant gratification guild anyway.

I was just kiddin, Sans

Most people mispell my handle. The only reason I use that iz 'cause all others were taken. I tried steve-o, stev-o and all my usual i'net stuff and they were all used-up so I started typing in random letters and zxyz wasnt taken!! -lol-
Oh- and I LOVE BANDMIX TOO!!!
I think that there are only a few disgruntled patrons here (or there) ..

A good way to network on myspace is to visit their forums and post regularly. People will click on you just out of curiosity and friend you if they like your stuff.
I don't really do that simply because both my bands have their own myspace pages, so I really have no interest or need to promote myself as an individual artist, other than to share my personal music.

I live in a city full of people and still strugle to get a good jamm going. Hopfuly this thing with the drummer will keep up, and that may make it eaiser to pull in others. You can come to my place and jam. You are never to old to gig.
