I have wrote...or...is it written a couple songs *Probable 3-4* but now I seem to be having trouble writing anymore. Are there any ideas on how to spark the creative juices? Or even if you have any song writing tips that would be awesome. I will try to post the songs when I can bring the disk in to upload them to my pc.

Creative Juices? You mean like Vodka, Tequila. As far as what to write about, Just open your eyes and see what is around you.......

When my group gets stuck writing music we usually have a group night and bounce ideas off each other...usually involves beer too. Seems to always work for us. The stuff we come up with is not always top notch stuff, but it is a way to keep writing music fun and get the music coming again. Watch old music videos, read, go for a long drive to someplace you haven't been. That's when stuff seems to hit for some reason. Just don't try to hard...you will get discouraged. =)

Yes. Song writing How do you do it? Was the thread title best I can recall.
I went back 20 pages in General Chat and did not find it. I believe it was started by Gigdoggy.

Hmm this one varies from person to person.
Honestly what I feel helps me get out of a
songwriting rut is a few things.
One is to imagine a theme, an idea, a story or
perhaps a true life event. The other is to listen
to new music or old music that you have never
listened to before. This usually sparks inspiration again.
I can't wait to hear what you got.
Good luck with the songwriting :)

Here's my advice:

Lyrically
Depends on what you're trying to write about. Do you have some sort of underlying theme or message you'd like to convey? Or do you prefer to have a larger variety of songs rather than just one thematic element?

Frankly, I think the latter is a more difficult situation to handle. When I write, I pick a theme. Love and politics get trite after a while, but they're a good staple, and pervade popular music. Writing's also a good vehicle for making your opinions heard, if that helps any.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, just trying to write a song about anything is a far more daunting task than writing about something you've already decided upon to some small degree. Start with an idea for foundation, and then build from there.

Musically
This is also highly subjective and depends 100% on your tastes and your style. I don't really think I could help you too much with that unless you were more specific as to what it is exactly that you're playing.

In general, though, pick a progression and build around it. Block chords themselves don't even need to be in the finished product at all, but giving yourself a skeleton is a good strategy. That way you have a musical idea, and you can start playing around with melodies, riffs, and all that. Of course, some people do the reverse, but that's just how I generally do it.

I just bought a new floor lamp. It puts off a nice warm glow. I believe it to be very conducive to songwriting.
I know you think I'm pulling your leg, but I'm not. That atmosphere will feed my creative abilities, I promise.

Don't try. Trying only forces unfinished thoughts to become something their not supposed to be (which is usually bad, or at least not up to the potential of what the idea could be).

Of course, I've been drinking again, and I could be feeding you a bunch of crap.

Sometimes the pressure cooker approach will do it -- if you have one good part to work with -- obsess over it, get pissed, go to sleep thinking about it, wake up and think some more. when you are about to snap, then lhet it go for awhile. Next time it drifts into your thoughts... sometimes its 'wham', fully formed in your head.
Kind of like boiling a pot of water.

Normally, not pushing it is the better way but sometimes ya gotta shake things up.

And sometimes theres nothing you can do but wait the dry spell out.
Well besides just making a song-template kinda thing. cookie cutter stuff, just for the practice.

(long dry spell here, but been too damned busy with lifes niceness to boil water)

Everyone has their was of getting them out.

Not to get all wierd...but my way is to come up with music first...Then I hum out non-sense words while working on a catchy melody...While I'm humming, I kinda let my mind wander towrds things that bother me...annoy me...

Eventually words start switching around to a place where the words say what I want in a way that's good to phrase.

But that is just what works for me...I write angry. It's my style AND my therapy.

One way I use is, ask yourself these questions:
Who, What, When, Where and Why....Hope this helps.....
