Anyone actually using this site to find bands/musicians?

I know that playing cover tunes isn't everyone's cup of tea, but even so...I'm not getting my door beat down here. I've had more responses from ads tacked on music store cork boards.

I believe I mention that we write and record originals as well...and usually play with a harder sound.

Maybe I need someone to critique my ad?

Well, I don't like the band's name.

I'd list some influences in the proper area.

Glad to see you have music up. I like it. I don't like the keyboard horn tones, although it's played well.

Excellent vocals. Fun music. I'd play with you in a second.

Sometimes you have to be extra patient. This site isn't the only one to use. Place ads at your local music store, too. Trying to replace ppl is hard.

There really aren't as many musicians out there as there used to be, & so the ones that can & will work in your style of music are even fewer (no matter what style it is). Beware the flakes.

Wishing you the best of luck. I'm having the same damned problems.

I've been a paid member for about two weeks, sent out e-mails to members and haven't gotten a single response. Not sure if these people even exist or that the mail system even works, maybe you could drop me a mail, somebody?

Musicians are typically useless flesh surrounding a genital when it comes to responsibility...not expecting much but expecting something...lol!

The name was sorta "by committee" after the Buddy Miles song, but overall it seems to be more liked than disliked.

If we were doing strictly original music, I certainly would have listed them...but since we're a cover band first, and original second...it didn't seem a pressing need. Our focus may change a bit in time, however.

Thanks. Convincing keyboard horns are usually a specialty thing, and these were done by a guitarist. :) We're primarily a guitar band.

Thanks again. These demo songs barely scratch the surface of what we've done as musicians.

My patience is tempered by upcoming gigs I'm committed to. Got the ads at the stores already. I have a lot of memories doing this in the 80s. lol

I've got pretty good "flake-dar", but there's no predicting a mental breakdown. lol

I hope you have luck with your quest as well. Take a look at the three listed myspace sites if you get the chance. I'd welcome an opinion on those as well.

Cheers!

I've jammed with a few musicians from Bandmix. There are a lot of other websites. I've had the most response from Craig's List, don't know if Craig's List covers every region of the country. There's a lot of ways to find musicians. Some require zero money. I have found a few just by telling every person I know or even strangers I just met that I'm looking for musicinas. You'd be amazed how many people know somebody that plays an instrument. Go to all the music stores in your area and talk to the empoyees, especially music instructors, that you're looking for someone. They may have a star pupil, or maybe even themselves are interested in your project. Go see bands that play similar music to you and talk to the band members between sets or after the show. Most musicians know other musicians, or they themselves might be interested in your project. Relying on Bandmix to be your only way to find musicians may be a disappointment. Keep trying other methods. Sometimes it takes a little marketing creativity to get results. Good luck.

Me and our drummer hooked up through the corkboard at the local George's music.

Found TONS of people through bandmix, but so far 9 out of 10 never call, show up for audition, and the few who have were just not a good fit.

I've gotten as many responses from craigslist ads, and more of them actually do show up, although we still haven't found the magical "fit"

We may have found a new singer through our hosting open-mic night, so there's an avenue that may have paid off.

Bass players.. well.. I'm at a loss. I'm starting to wonder if every famous band's bassist is really a 6 string guitarist who was forced into it out of necessity or something...

I just did a search again for a bassist, and every single profile lists instruments played as acoustic guitar/bass/electric guitar....

Freeking bandmix, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF MUSIC CREATE A "MAIN INSTRUMENT" and "SECONDARY INSTRUMENT" CRITERIA IN THE PROFILES !!! GRRR!

Try paying your bassist.

That's what i did. I paid him 50$ to show up on time and know the material cold. After 4 rehearsals, he basically told me I could stop paying him.

Now I pay my keyboardist. LOL And it's worth every penny.

I've come to that conclusion myself brother. I've actually been contemplating on getting my own bass rig just to get the bass lines that I need recorded because I still haven't run into a "real" bass player that can get the job done properly. I grabbed my buddy's bass a few months ago because he wanted to get the recording levels right for it on his setup so I started shredding the hell out of it like it was a guitar. Then he yelled at me and said that I was making him look bad (well that wasn't hard to do) and to put his bass back down and he was done playing for the night. Now come on dude! Check out Symphony X's bass player; that dude rips man!

Scooterjohn: I joined here to actually find the people that I need to fulfill the rest of a REAL band to record a new CD and then go out and perform it, but I haven't even had one contact in all of this time. Even though it's a real bummer, I feel like I've made some pretty cool friends here that given the time and the place, we could all get together and totally ROCK! Maybe it's timing, maybe it's karma, but whatever the case may be we must believe and move on. The one thing that nobody can take from us is HOPE so let's leave it at that...Good luck brother. :D

Hey shred, have you tried humping craigslist? I've made many decent contacts through it, although I don't know if they have one for the edge of the river you are at.

BMix would be better if they auto-dropped ppl who dont log in at least once a month or something.. I dunno

Hey Bob Greaves! That was my mother's father's name.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay...thought I'd found someone here. We had long convos on the phone, exchanged emails. Then he told me he was moving & had to put me on hold for a bit. I was okay with that, & waited.
4 weeks later he emails me & tells me his old bass player has returned, but he still wants to use my vox, rhythm, mandolin & keys work. I was fine with that, in fact, I was actually looking forward to trying out some new things with some new ppl.
Yesterday he wrote me that he was outvoted by the band, that they'd decide to stay a 4-piece.
You know what? I'm still okay with that, & you know why?
He at least had the decency to tell me. He was as straight up as he could be about it all, & I appreciate that, even if it means I still don't have anyone to work with. He still is quite okay with me. He didn't just run away from me & leave me hanging. That means he's a pretty alright man in my book, & yeah, I AM disappointed, but doo-doo occurs & you hafta accept it sometimes.
I'm still here, waiting & hoping for some success, but this experience hasn't ticked me off in the least. It's far better than what I've heard happening with others. If things change, I hope he keeps me in mind, cuz I'd work with him in a second.
Find bands? I thought this was a transgender chat line.
No wonder people keep asking me what I play. I tell um I'm playing with my #$%^ Duh.
SERIOUSLY though
I've found 5 or 6 people that have played with me at jails, the homeless, or open mics. A couple of people contacted me about bands and I let them know that I wasn't really up to that level. I know how good I am but I also know how good I'm not. So havent wasted anyones time and find someone interested in jamming once in a while.
Man I thought a couple of you guys looked pretty good as girls.
Thought this was man mix.
