I've heard that The Beatle's "Yesterday" is the most covered song in history. I've also heard people like Burt Bacharach call it the greatest song ever written. I myself have recorded a cover of it and play it live occasionally and I always get a positive reaction. I don't believe there can be any such thing as one greatest song, but if I've got two cents that's it.

without a doubt: "Amazing Grace"

because:

1) It has provided comfort and assurance for many many years now.

2) It can be played on the mighty bagpipe.

I dont know the artist but I think Badfinger wrote this song.

"I Cant Live, If Livin Is Without You". This song has always sent chills down my back when I hear it, even today. Its really not in a genre I like.

Second would be George Harrisons "Something".

Third for me would be "Yesterday".

Im judging these on pure songwriting merits, not what I like.

This is a completely subjective topic. That beind said.....

The one that is always at the top of the greatest rock songs is Sweet Emotion.

If your asking me, it's Tonight by Ozzy off of Diary of a Madman.

Though alot Rush would come in a close second.

Hey JW, that was Harry Nilsson who wrote "Without You". It was covered by other people who made it a hit.

Thanks guys,

The version that I like was Harry Nilsson. I knew Badfinger wrote it but I dont guess Ive ever heard their version. I used to hear this song on the radio and it just moved me. This coming from a Zep, Kiss, Aerosmith, ZZ Top type of person. I can think of lots of songs that moved me emotionally in some way but "Without You" gives me the chills just thinking about it.

Nilsson's version has more impact but here's the original performed by Badfinger for you :)

Thanks Greenie,

Upon listening to this next to Nilsson's version I guess its the way Nilsson holds the word live until the next phrase instead of releasing it that gets to me. That Mariah Carey version is killer also. Man does she have a voice or what. I wish she did some more stuff that was up my alley. I would be a fan.

Once again how far are you from Memphis, TN?

Thanks for the add on myspace.
