Hi. I am the Executive Producer at New Blues Festival's 6 String Showdown, a series of regional blues guitar competitions to crown the best all around guitar player in California on the Main Stage of the New Blues Festival in Long Beach later this summer.

In one short year, 6SS has become the biggest blues guitar event of the year in California

In Season One we drew forty contestants from all over the state ranging in age from 14-72 from as far away as Sacramento and Phoenix to face off in two regions, Orange County and San Gabriel Valley, with the four semi-finalists moving on to the Long Beach stage in front of 8,000 fans and celebrity judges where one winner, Jesse Godoy from Orange County walked off with cash and prizes in excess of $5,000, and a paid spot on the NBF Main Stage this year for him and his band.

The event was a monumental success and provided a dynamic launching pad for many of our contestants. This year promises to be even better.

6 String Showdown Season Two is currently in full swing with 64 spots reserved in four regions — OC, LA County, San Diego County, Kern County — with four additional festivals on board as well.

The OC regionals and finals will take place at Campus Jax in Newport Beach on Sunday April 7. The winner guitarist and their band will appear for a gig on the Big Top Stage at New Blues Festival Huntington Beach on Saturday April 28.

On Sunday, May 26th, the Los Angeles County Regionals will be hosted by noted SFV promoter Stixx Marshall and GrandStandJam and occur at Joes Great American Bar & Grill in Burbank. In addition to competing in the Long Beach finals, the LA regional winner will also win a set on the stage of the Ragin Cajun Blues Festival in Hermosa Beach on October 19th.

The combined San Diego County/Inland Empire Regional will be held at the Ramona MainStage in Ramona on Sunday, June 23rd and the SDC winner there will also win the opportunity to play a 30 minute at the Temecula Blues Festival in April of 2020.

On Sunday, June 30th, the Kern River Rock n Blues Festival will present the Kern County Regional at Temblor Brewing Co. in Bakersfield. The winner will also win the opportunity to perform with their band at the Kern River Rock n Blues Festival in Kern River on September 28th.

All four Regional winners will also advance to the semi-finals at the New Blues Festival in Long Beach to compete on the Golden Groove Stage. The two finalists will compete onstage at the Festival on the same day as well. And our Grand Prize winner will win a spot on the Main Stage the next day.

Maintaining transparency is a primary cornerstone of Six String Showdown. Clear communication of the rules and impartial judging are critical to the integrity of the competition. Rules are available online and read aloud prior to each event. There will be three judges at each event. Judging will be based on three categories: Technical Merit (skill and technique), Presentation (showmanship and performance), and Audience Response.

Each category will account for an even one-third of the scoring.
