On his 79th birthday, Merle Haggard gets a promotion to the Spirit realm.

I sold my Roland Synth guitar to Clint Strong in the 80s, Merle's lead guitarist, but that was as close as I ever got to seeing or hearing him. Not really my style, but I always had a healthy respect for the genuine honesty in the music he wrote.

Somehow my dad had 2 Hank Williams albums, but after that Merle Haggard & Ray Price were his only other records
Goodbye to a legend of an artist, songwriter, singer, poet and all-around bad-ass, Mr Merle Haggard.

wow....they're dropping like flies. :(

growing up in nyc i was aware of MH but had never actually heard him, though i had played some of his tunes. i was telling someone the other day that the first time i actually heard him was on "Poncho and Lefty".....wow, that entrance of his still gives me goosebumps everytime i hear it!

we play several of his tunes at the truckstop (big surprise, right?) but i guess we'll really be playing a lot of his stuff over the next few wks. R.I.P.

I have been a fan of Merle Haggard as far back as i can remember. I saw him several times in the early 70's. I always loved his music and impressed by the medley he always did covering other C&W artist songs. He is undoubtedly Playing with Johnny again. Will soon be playing with Mr. Glenn Campbell according to the news of late he is in the final stages of Alzheimer's disease! :(
