Hey fellow NYC musicians,
So I'm a drummer based in Astoria with very eclectic musical tastes, but it's bothered me for awhile that I can't go out and here any sort of that fantastic Americana / Dixieland jazz / blues / roots rock sound in our area regularly. If you've ever seen / heard The Last Waltz and think it's the greatest thing of all time, gone to a Levon Helm Midnight Ramble in Woodstock, and/or spent an evening hopping from venue to venue on Frenchmen Street and listening to Rebirth / Dirty Dozen brass band in NOLA you probably know what I'm talking about.
So in that vein, I figured I'd see if there were any other like-minded musicians out there interested in just bringing that to NYC themselves? Would need vocalists, strings, guitars, trombones, trumpets, sax, keys, the works. Full disclosure, I do have a regular day job, but am absolutely committed to regular practice and ultimately playing fun, live shows if we could make it work.
Think a smattering of Americana and New Orleans standards by THE BAND / DIRTY DOZEN BRASS BAND / DR. JOHN and can also mix it up with funk or the occasional blues ballad (Billie?) if we can do it justice. I'm down for any of it, as long as we can nail that full-bodied sound and play energetic live shows.
Let me know if interested!
