I'm a guitarist/singer/songwriter from the NYC area, previously the lead singer of the prog-thrash band Dark Empire, looking to put a new band together to perform material from the album I released earlier this year, Far Enough Into the Void.
You can hear the songs here: http://brianlarkin.bandcamp.com
The predominant style is progressive metal, but ideal candidates will have some experience with and ability to play well in other styles, as there are also elements of funk, fusion and rock. Check out the album here: http://brianlarkin.bandcamp.com Potential audition songs include "Disembodied Profanity", "Live It Down", "Delete You", and "Habit Magnet"... (I'm pretty sure if you can play those, you can handle any of the others...)
I know this diminishes my prospects pretty heavily, but I'm *not* looking for hired guns. It's essential that I work with people who are doing this out of faith in the music, who will actually enjoy playing it, and who ideally want to push themselves to become better musicians while also having fun.
This music is very technically demanding, and it should go without saying that in this genre, a high caliber of musicianship is essential. So, it would be appreciated if your response includes a link to your own music -- full songs, work with previous bands, videos, or even smaller audio clips -- whatever you think represents you best and demonstrates that you can pull this stuff off.
Or, if you don't have any prior work available to listen to, but know you can play the songs, video auditions are also welcome! Since the drums on the album were programmed, I don't expect note-for-note, fill-for-fill renditions, but it's also important that the essential elements of the parts are represented properly. So, taking a few small liberties is both expected and encouraged, but please don't change the song beyond recognition...
Thanks for reading and listening, and if you decide this isn't for you, good luck in finding whatever you're looking for!
