I've stopped my active partner search (didn't renew the CL ads). Instead, gone into passive search mode - I'll keep scanning the CL ads, and talking to folks at the open mics.
With the open mic I'm hosting there's a lot of extra work involved in promotion. Got the songwriter group once Saturday afternoon per month. Coming up this summer I've got a string of 4 Saturdays (and 2 of the Fridays) in July/August in a row where I'm busy with one thing or another, so wouldn't be able to gig on those days.
Still, if the right opportunity comes along, I'll jump to join an existing act that is gigging!

You'll meet a lot more people through open mikes than you'll meet through Craig's list, and they'll be pre-vetted.

Not only that, but being out and talking and listening to other musicians is a whole lot more fun than just reading/responding to online crap! But its funny I hear, often, from people who 'don't do open mics' - meaning not only do they not play at them, but they won't even attend one. Guess they can keep playing with/by themselves at home.
