It's tough to find good bandmates anywhere. Live somewhere that you like first, look for people 2nd.

I think you're crazy to leave Florida. You might try Orlando, but no reason to leave the state if you like it there.
If you're just looking for bandmates, there would be no better place than Austin TX where there a bazillion musicians looking to form an ORIGINAL band. But you'll have to leave town to find a paying gig.
New Orleans if you're more into jazz or blues. NYC is way too expensive and stiff competition. LA is (mostly) weird and the music biz is gone, really. That would be my choice though. A lot of great players with no jobs now.
Miami is as good a place as any, bro.

I lived in LA and NY. Love the Cali weather but for music go to a music city.
Gnashville is more diverse (what I hear) these days. Austin or Memphis bleed music... lots of options in towns that have active music scenes. Memphis has a pretty high crime rate so bring your street smarts along for the ride. I'd go to Austin ... If I were a bit younger.
