On the other side.
New song on my player. Calling it Cold Ohio for now...
Pretty self explanatory I think?

This is a first mix and I know it still needs some git. work but it's close. One of my sons is going to learn it and try the vocals for chits and giggles. He has a similar tone to me but cleaner sound and more range. Will be interesting to see what he can do with it.
Any mix thoughts or anything else have at it.

Another Americana sound to me... not country.

I like . . . well written and preformed . . . definitely 'Americana' in flavor.

Have to wonder however, it's very 'wordy' making the lyrics seem rushed to my ear.

After you've toyed with it some and become familiar with what you want it to say you might go in an weed out some of the words that really are no necessary to comprehension. Even 'slanging' some of the terms to reduce the overall syllable count can make your song flow a little more fluidly and not sound rushed.

This though seems especially difficult to make sense out of in type.
I hope you can grasp my meaning and intention here.

As an example, not a suggestion as I did not attempt to sing it with your musical composition.

The first line

We sat out on the rocks looking up at the stars and the city
lights

Might go :

Sat on the rocks lookin at the stars n city lights

Thanks Sans.... I know I get wordy at times but it's how I hear it in my head. I think i may be subliminally trying to fill space so I don't have to hold a note for too long. Idk...

I've noticed over the last seven years, how everything we do evolves.
The more familiar a vocalist ( or instrumentally as well ) we become the more things get 'trimmed' to fit.
A word dropped or changed can improve vocal flow for the singer and it just happens naturally over time.
Being as I don't sing, when I write I have to keep in mind vocal cadence.
If not my vocalist just looks at me like I've lost my mind.

Jahva - I think this is one of your best yet! I don't think the lyrics are too wordy at all, maybe a syllable or two in places, from what you had typed for lyrics to what you sang sounds like you had already done that a little.

Wouldn't call it Americana, though, its much more alt-indie. I like the acoustic vs electric guitar balance in it.

Only suggestions I have: the name "The Other Side"
The ending: get rid of these 2 lines - 'Wanting more is what they taught you… more than what this life has brought you
What you believe is it what you’ll find when you arrive' and repeat the chorus or "the other side" part a few times.

Thanks mike I appreciate that!
I thought the name Cold Ohio night was less obvious. I wanted it to be the breaking point. I don't think I dwelled on it enough though. I try to stay away from the obvious sometimes. It may confuse but the title to me doesn't necessarily need to be the chorus repeat line. I probably shouldn't overthink these things. It's either interesting or not.

I wanted more of an Ad-lib to the ending... But my vocal range fails me. I may try an outro of the chorus with a little solo accompanying it.
Still have to fix a few spots on guitar especially the ending.
Thanks for the input.

Jahva Im still recording, I actually have about 10 Im messing with, but honestly when I let them sit for a few days and the initial thrill of them wears off they all sound like fluff to me.

I think Im just at a point to where people hearing them or not doesnt matter much to me, its just an excercise to get things out of my system.

But who knows maybe I will find a gem that really gets me going!

Writing and recording is just like playing live, you have to keep in practice, so I practice practice practice

I hear you JW... But fluff never stopped me. :P I understand you have standards though. If you get something done post it. You're one of the few hard rockers here... would be cool to hear something new.
