My Aussie friend sent me a demo of a tune he wrote. It was pretty rough but had a decent song idea... So after several weeks of back and forths across the globe we finally finished it.
First on my player titled "Yankee O'Reily"
I created the music he wrote and sang it. The toughest part is the communications... Just being on the same page but again was a good exercise.
I guess it's an Americana folk song.
Feel free to comment good or bad like dislike etc...

The music part of it sounds like Johnny Cash to me..right or wrong, up or down, left or right..

Thanks for checking it out Scott... JC is alright by me. Don't know a whole lot of his music but I get you're coming from.

I am not a johnny cash guy, but I respect his work.

How can you deny ole Johnny>?
The vocals are not like him but the song sounds like his type of musical construction and that's a win.

Good stuff, although the vocal track needs to be redone, it is not recorded as good as it could be - could be the technique, room or the mic. Don't know if you could fit it better into the mix by putting it on the same reverb buss as the instruments, or maybe some compression.

Thanks Mike...
We went back and forth on the vocals... in the end I had him send me the tracks how he wanted them. Effects already in place.
I was a bit indifferent on it I think. Definitely not the same when it's not your song. I created the music and that was my part.
He was happy with the final mix. And like I said it was good experience for me seeing as I don't usually work on someone else song.
I thought the topic and his accent fit perfectly... an immigrant coming to America struggling to make his way in the new free world. Was on point.

I'm done with collabs for now... going back to the start and remixing and re-recording some things that have always bugged me. I want to have at least a collection of my better songs recorded and mixed proper. Just too much clutter lying around... unfinished songs and bad mixes. They'll keep me busy for a spell or two... :P
