So I told you I was going to check out a couple of guys in the area.

It happened last night.

It was kind of an odd affair.
They are a good bunch. Very pleasant and decent.

But I don't know if we'll be playing together again.

I think they were looking for funk and what they got wasn't really "funky" unless you count the smell. lol

We had a nice chat and then I found out that I had missed the part where they wanted me to bring my Marshall Bass head and a 2x15.
(oops)
It was just as well though.

I ended up playing my bass through a JTM half stack which I was extremely tentative about since it wasn't even mine.
(I don't like using other people's gear and I don't like them using mine.)

So I didn't use my crappy bass processor, I just went straight in.

The wanted me to play some of the earlier materials from the last configuration. I told them that I wasn't really wanting to repeat that.

What I wanted to do was just improv.

So we started out tentatively and it was slow going.
I think the one guy was a little lost, so I did what I usually do in that type of situation...I grab the root and come up with a rhythm figure based on the root and the basics.

So we ended up doing a half hour jam in G.

I thought it was reasonable, but then you know me.
I fly by the seat of my pants and I like it rough, Seattle calms me.

It was rough and it sonically resembled a bad day for Soundgarden or Silverchair mixed with some southern rock riffs.
Actually I am listening to "Israel's Son/Silverchair" and it was definitely similar in some spots.

It was actually kind of heavy, accidentally. (Glad I didn't break out my processor, they would have had a conniption.)

They looked a little "blasted and bewildered" at the conclusion.

In any case, I had a good time. I don't know if we'll actually get together because the music I heard from them was relatively tame in comparison and I think they were actually looking for FUNK from me.

And if you ever heard me play anything before, I don't have that in my musical vocabulary, no urge to play it either.

In a way, it felt like a reprieve from the PRISON of clean recordings people seem to think I like. (sneer)

Just another good example of how whoever you play with colors your sound. One day it's clean city, the next it's Seattle.

I'll tell you one think though, I'd rather play some grunge in a supporting position than covers or clean nonsense or anything else in another more preferential position.

You gotta make yourself happy and if any part of it doesn't work, scrap that sh*t and move on to the next situation. Someone out there is looking for you and it's half your responsibility to find the situation that suits you in the best possible way.

(Body and soul, I'm a freak, I'm a freak) lol
