Johnny7 and Slacker seem to dabble quite a bit in guitar/amp work... is it just a matter of lining the cavities with the copper tape or is there more to it?

Any single coil guitar will benefit by lining the cavity behind the pickups and creating a quasi-Faraday cage (Strat, Tele, P-90). I have used copper and also heavy aluminum foil and soldering it to ground. In a really awful room there is no escaping some hum with single coil pickups. There are guys do use gates but I prefer a little background hum to gates in my signal. Gated guitar tails give me hives. YMMV

Considering the guitar you were playing, you have no where to go but up.

Check out guitarfetish.com . They are Chinese, but other than typical set up when new, are well thought of with good pickups. One of the guitarists in my last band had the semi-hollow body model. I didnt' know it was an inexpensive Xavier, from the sound I would have thought one of the top-end Epi's like the Casino.
Others have commented that they are excellent guitars for the money. I think there is a Xavier Strat model on ebay now for cheap money, too.

Thanks Mike! When you guys first suggested that site, at a glance, I thought it was just a parts outlet I could consider later for pups, tuners etc....Those gtr's get good reviews when compared to the MIMs'...I cant believe a company like this can have models in the price range with a 12" radius and Fender (or anyone else) , have NONE! :? Id be on the PH right now ordering IF , only they had a PH.... GOTTA find someone I know with a credit card /online account!...Glad you mentioned this cause in my despair, I was likely gonna blow 600$ for an MIM... .At least I know NOW what a mark up strat clones can have. Oh well, off to find a "CO signer" for 200$..... Nothings changed since 73......

If you pay more than 300$ for a used guitar, you are being robbed.

That Peavey Predator you wanted is about 300$ NEW, oops sorry 199$ on eBay.

OPEN YOUR EYES AND LOOK AROUND, IT'S A BIG WIDE WORLD.

USE IT OR IT WILL USE YOU.

I liked it better when it was a SMALL world and I didnt get screwed over.... A world where I, BY GOD , was in control...Ive had a few BAD online exps ordering from the net and my E mail was recently hacked so Im still alittle skiddish. BUT, good news!.. GF said they take checks/money orders so I might in bidness...They say that order confromation, processing, and shipping date are un determinable so I thought Id ask if you guys know what the shipping charge would be on a guitar from there? I didnt ask yet since a MAY get a case. How bout recieving your order? (1 week? 2 weeks? more?).. Just tryin to get a feel through your guys exp what to expect.

Thanks,

ecch..

1) locate what you want.

2) buy it.

3) have them ship it. The closer the better.
50$ for shipping is plenty.

4) make sure you have them ship it disassembled.

I know a guy who bought a strat from eBay.
They didn't remove the neck when it was shipped.
When he got it, the neck was cracked and the pocket was damaged.

FYI you don't ship an amp with the tubes still in it, either.

John you are killing me.

Have you at least got a neck>?

I have a lefty strat from 04, loaded. Add your neck and do a setup and you are done. (i hate lefties)

125$ + shipping. Get the idea? Don't spend too much.

I'd buy a peavey predator in however you like it, considering it's cheap and you like it so much.

My one buddy plays a CRAP guitar, but he can play. And so sometimes I eat some crow because he plays that guitar like a fiend and suddenly it sounds great. (It's still a cheap piece of crap though and I remind him of it often.)

If you know how to really play, an expensive instrument isn't really all that and a soda if it's functional and at least 21-22 frets.

You don't need to ship the body/neck disassembled as long as it is packed correctly (typically box-in-a-box). Insured by the shipper, if its damaged, they do a claim, you send it back and they send you another one.
Once you decide on what you want, just ask GF to give you the shipping cost so you can send a check. For online ordering, they even have a 'shipping calculation' widgit.

NO!

Do not ever ship me a guitar with the neck on it or strung.

I won't even accept it.

And with the stuff I am interested in, it's just a refund.

No take the neck off. I'll take care of the rest or just forget it.

Well Gang, my new (USED) USA 12" R Predator is HERE. I wanted to play it for a day before responding. This neck sets a bit higher on the body and the saddles are pretty high but I think I like that. Only problem is , the pups are up all the way and are still a bit lower in height compared to the old gtr. Not gettin quite the punch even though I cranked the vol pedal up a few DBs. Neck feels GRRRREAT!..Like Scott, thats EVERYTHING to me. This one intonates better as well. Has a different nut which I think is key.
Ok, back to bonding with my new toy!

break out the Phillips head screwdriver and lower the pickups.

Just make sure the sound you want is still there after you get done adjusting it.

I went through a little trouble adjusting the pickup height on my one guitar.

I dropped it way down and suddenly it wasn't sounding like I wanted it to, so I put it back up almost to where it was and dropped it in stages this time.

It's a long process, but in the end you get what you want.

Glad you got something you like, John.
You were starting to worry me..
