For any Eagles fans... being aired on Showtime.
I watched part 1 yesterday. It details the early days, all the departures and the break-up after "The long Run"... and of course Joes crazy Hotel history! Even had footage and photos of Henley and Frey as kids in their early bands. A must see for the Eagles fans!

Maybe the Greatest American band of all time.

I met a guy years ago who said he stopped at a small bar in California maybe many years ago and heard a local band called the Eagles. He said they were about the worst band he ever heard. Then many years later he started hearing the Eagles on the radio. He thought it couldn't possibly be the same band but it was! Just goes to show that perseverance and staying together for years can sometimes pay off.

His story is doubtful Bob. The Eagles formed in 1971 and released their first album a year later, which spawned three hit singles. The Eagles were pretty much an overnight sensation and have been huge for forty years, they never slogged it out in bars.

There was a short stint of Frey and Henley playing in separate bands in L.A. But neither called themselves The Eagles.
Frey started working with Rondstads band and shortly after, Henley joined them.
Once they left and formed the band that would become the Eagles they did some shows under a different name. Don't recall a mention of it though.
Frey says the name came during the photoshoot in the dessert for the first album. They were all getting stoned and drunk and doing payote.
Henly went to take a piss and he heard the others talking loudly then a shadow passed over him and he looked up and saw this Eagle soaring above him.
Yup... stoned on Payote.

There's a scene from 1980 where they were doing a benefit show for some politician. As they were being thanked Felder says "Your welcome... I guess"
Frey overheard it and got P'Od. So they're doing the show and Frey is just steaming on stage from Felder's remark... Felder just thought it was a bunch of BS to be doing a benfit for some poltico.
So the two start exchanging words on stage and it gets pretty heated. Both were ready to throw down but waited till they got off stage. They had cameras running during the performance so they got it all on film. It's pretty wild. Won't tell you how it ends.
They really hold nothing back in this Doc.
Didn't know Seger took Frey under his wing and let Frey sing BGV on "Ramblin man" also layed down the acoustic git track.
