What do you think of these guys?

Listen to the 1st track, "Bridgette Fountainhead".

Pick it apart a little, what do you think of it and why>?

I gravitate to this over and over again, no idea why other "than it cures what agitates the savage within me".

Kinda dull and droning.
It's alright I guess.

Farmers can be Jedi, too!

It was good Intro...Beyond that the mix needs improvement (The guitar slinging drowns out the keys and vocals)
It has a dreary ambience to it...

I could not get past the too long intro myself.

I did just finish a show and have some major fatigue going on so . . .

Kind of a bummer feeling mood piece to me. Like a downward spiral. After a listen and a half the guitar line is uninteresting to keep me around...

lol I keep hearing that line about that it not being well-mixed.

"That's Seattle Sci-Fi Grunge, maaaan. It's always on the dirty side."
Some of us not unlike a pig, roll in the dirt. (raises hand)

But yea, I acknowledge that..I think it would be better if the mix was more refined.

This bmix crew is tough. They pick out the flaws you usually only hear from the initiated few. (We could use some more dummies around here than just me.) lol

Keep the slaps coming. Good or bad isn't an issue since most of what I hear has to do with technical aspects. One can't really argue with that since it's musical convention and "it is what it is", but I am receptive to whatever you feel.

The dreary ambiance/downward spiral that it conveys is what attracts me to it. Remember I like it "when they cry" either for real or at the helm or in security or in engineering or even in the brig.

Tissue? lol It will be better when we clear this deserted planet for the closest star base...

Not so much a bad mix - more like no mix - I honestly didn't even realize there was a vocal till late in the game. Kind of liked the tune though.

As the worst recording guy in this galactic quadrant I don't think you have to take any criticism from me too seriously though.

There is a reason I haven't posted any new music - I should be shot for taking God given song writing skills and turning out sh*t that would have gotten me the hook in simpler times. Everything I record sounds like mush - good gear, fine instruments, good songs - asshole trying to record. there ought to be a law...

I just got moved in to my new place and am setting up to record. A guy in a music store gave me some ticks that may help. Showed me how to direct record from my amp instead of blasting everything to pieces with a marshal cabinet.

The odd thing is that my Fender Mustang V head will make all kinds of various sounds but thus far when I record they all sound the same - like mush. (been using a vocal amp for recording which may be dumb - don't know.

Just got the cable and sound card stuff and we'll see if that helps.

Either way - I'll try to get some recording done soon and post for critique - for all I know one of you smarter guys will immediately hear a real obvious goof which will be easily fixed and I'm on the road to the top! :D

Palmer are really good to record direct with.
I've heard quite a few albums using them.

LOL Just why do think I team up with others>?

Surely not because I need help writing my own material(s), it's because my mixing and mastering in a word, "sucks".

You find people of a like ear and work with them or someone that their music is tolerable to your palette.

I gravitate to keys players because they generally know what I am talking about with little explanation.
I gravitate to people who can mix and master well. The proof is always in the pudding.

Sure I dabble a little bit production-wise but I find outside in the cold, most good artists can create readily. They cannot however, mix and master. (The hardest thing to find are keys players, followed by good bass players. Guitarists and drummers are a dime a dozen. Vocalists are like a bad sandwich; the more talent they have, the more sh*t you have to eat.)

If you've written something you want to record, I suggest you look to see who can help you that is close by as the hours go by very quickly and paying for someone to help is a terrible joke of the worst variety.

The best help you'll ever get is from someone who is what you are not strong in and likes what you are doing without trying to change your music for something that they like better than what you are doing currently.

It's kind of rare, but it's possible.

Later on, the producers know better than to stick their greasy fingers in your mix unless they want to lose one or more.

"Don't f**k with the artist and no one has to get hurt" lol

And for the record, I take all criticisms seriously...fair or unfair, "it is what it is". The only thing you can ever ask is that they tell you "what they really feel about the work in question".

I agree with the others regarding Bridgette - vocals are part of the background noise, instead of being what the song is about.

Mike T - when recording guitar, less distortion is better, turn down the drive/gain/overdrive and you will get a more-defined sound.

Get real Jahva, I don't care at all and if I did, you'd be the first to know...

Produce more music, that will make me quiet especially while I listen to it.
(You may not like what I have to say afterwards, but you know it will be what I truly felt, not some underhanded attack on your vitals and that's the way it should be here at Bmix.)

Good replies boys...

And Scot - you really nailed it. I think I'm spoiled because it always seemed like somebody (other than me) knew how to do it.

The last guy I worked with (recently) who had an elaborate recording system was a drummer. All well and good. But it never got off the ground because the guy really wasn't very good on the drums.

It could be raining silver dollars and I'd get hit on the head with a nickel!
