Indie Award Show

Hey everyone,

A couple of weeks back I went to a nomination party for an upcoming awards show. While I was there I talked to a lot of bands who expressed their frustration at the fact that it seemed the awards show was nothing more than a popularity contest. So by the end of the night (and a few drinks in my system) I decided to host my own awards show and make it more about talent and not a popularity contest. I run an online radio station and have a lot of bands and contacts to make this happen. I got the ball rolling and am at a point where I am taking nominations from bands for the different awards.

I am working out a way to make the award show NOT a popularity contest and am calling in a lot of favors from people to make it happen. BUT, I have been asking bands to give their two cents to see if I am on the right track. I would love to know what anyone out there thinks. Again, I am really just trying to do something for bands that says "Thanks for saving us from the crap they are trying to pass off as music right now".

Hey man... I run and coordinate a song writing contest in my area. If you want to get around the Popularity contest aspect of it , i highly recommend that you recruit qualified judges to evaluate the bands. (Do not let the audience weigh in beyond applause ) Make sure your musical criteria is clear, professional and realistic.
Also, keep in mind ...Its about the fun...

Good luck

Every online contest these days is just a 'popularity contest', usually designed so that the people running it can harvest email addresses.

I Never trust Online contests... CDBaby just release an announcement to enter a song... I refuse to do it...

In real life, ,my contest ensures that everybody walks away with something... Winners 1st, 2nd, 3rd get cash prizes, studio time and people come together to have fun...
And at the end, I'm not stealing their songs from them.

You cant get that with an online contest.
