Just a reminder that TOMORROW Wednesday June 13 The Bluefin Tuna Band will be headlining a three act show at Jerry's Bait Shop in Lee's Summit, Mo.USA. First act goes onstage at 8pm. Each act will perform a 45 minute set.

A nice one hour set. New doors will open to other venues as a result. I'll be happy to go back for more. I like those 1 hour shows and no hauling PA equipment. Works for me. There may be a Youtube vid coming out of this.

Just exactly how does one get out of hauling PA equipment?

I guess I'm just way too anal. I don't trust anyone else equipment to get the sound we want.

Then that could be my inexperience telling ...

House PA systems can be ok, if there's someone one them who knows how to run them AND what your band is supposed to sound like. When you're doing a 45 minute set with quick set up and breakdown, there's usually little time for more than telling the soundman that mic 1 is lead, etc. And if you're micing the amps, good luck getting it right.

House PA works a lot better if you get a sound check, or if you're solo or a duo act.

. Jerry's Bait Shop is one of the best rock venues in the KC metro. They have a great PA and very experienced people manning it. Bands get set up in under a half hour, quick mic check and GO. Really a piece of cake when you know what you're doing. All four acts were very different, each set up in under an hour, no problems. In a situation like that being anal about the sound ISN'T ALLOWED. No time to get it "exactly right." You get it set up and when it's your time to play you PLAY.

We have a similar venue where I am at... I've seen up to 5 bands in one night... They have a great stage (Its sunken into the floor,) and the have a hefty sound system in place... All the bands have to do is haul up their amps , Mics and guitars ...They even get a few minutes for a sound check (Via the in-house sound man) I've never seen a band take more than maybe 8- 10 minutes to get set up (Includes previous band's breakdown of their set)

That's the way a lot of clubs were going back in the mid-to-late 80s in this area when I finally quit the cover band I was in back then. Works fine if you've got a simple set up - combo amps for guitars, 1 singer, etc. Try hauling a Hammond B3 and full-size Leslie around, though, for a 1-hour set! F*ck that!
Gig a week from tomorrow (charity benefit), we're planning on a full 5-song practice/soundcheck for our 4-guy acoustic set (of course one of us is also the soundman for the gig, bringing his full set up).
For the Beatles tribute band, we've got a 1 hour video broadcast scheduled in July and we've got 2 hours for set up and full soundcheck. With 3 guitars and 6 vocals we need set up time to 'get it right'!
