But I just want to let you guys know that I won't be posting here so much anymore.

What I'm looking for is going to take patience, persistence, and of course, asking around and networking and making good friends.

Ever since I started this search back in 2007, I've been running into all kinds of different snags and getting in way over my head, and not knowing exactly what I'm doing sometimes, most of the time reaching individuals who are way too active in the music scene in Baton Rouge, rather than those musicians who just play for enjoyment.

And by the way, in the future, if I am doing something wrong talk to me about it. Don't assume the worst and report me. Disaggreements and the occasional argument will happen over the internet. But I want to keep things from getting out of control.

We'd all prefer if you just went away... You are wasting everybody's time... Seriously, get lost.

Be nice. I am a good guy with a good heart who has always meant well here. I am not forcing anyone to do anything they don't want to do and I'm not trying to be demanding, and I am not trying to waste anyone's time. If that's how you feel, then I can't help that, and I'm sorry for those who feel that way.


I apologize if my posts angered anyone and I'm sorry if I confused anybody. And I'm sorry for those who didn't understand that what I'm looking for requires me to connect with people in my city to gain the advice I needed. I tried to cover all the places I've tried based on my own experiences, and yet you guys didn't listen.

And I also apologize if I bitch about "people" in general and how this search can be exhausting at times.

Anyway, for those who have done their best to help, thanks and I wish you guys the best in your life's endeavors, not just music related.

Also don't feel you need to respond to this post. Just acknowledge that I'm trying again, but with a different approach.

Of course, I'm STILL not becoming a premier member, because I don't waste money on a service which may not be appropriate for the musicians I'm trying to reach. This means people in my city are going to have to discover my profile and contact me.

Waiting around will get you nowhere. YOU have to get out THERE and meet and greet.
Use the BM profile or start a FB page to host your music
Hit up Craigslist
Hang where people who like the same taste in music hang
Search FB for groups with the same interests - for instance there are plenty of homegrown Grateful Dead FB pages/fan sites for me to troll through looking for potential band members.
I am not above just emailing people out of the blue - sometimes you need to be bold man !
You def dont wanna be hanging with the sharks that swim these waters.

I appreciate the advice, but you need to think about this from a more buddy-buddy friendship standpoint, rather than a professional working musician standpoint.

Also note that if I knew some places to go during the day where I could meet and mingle with guys who play more of the artists I'm into (check my profile), I wouldv'e been all over that.

Keep in mind though, that I'm trying to reach those musicians who are good, but aren't all over the internet (like on Craigslist, Myspace, Facebook, etc) or active in the music community in my city. Granted, I wouldn't mind networking with those kinds of people, on the internet and in person, but, actually playing music with those guys from a buddy-buddy standpoint is not likely. In other words, I'm trying to find a few good friends to have a good time with working on some covers, and possibly find someone to help me expand and to start doing some songwriting with, while allowing some time to do other interests and activities. I'm not in a rush to get out there and perform or to turn something I love doing into a job.

That's an idea, but the Facebook group needs to be a Baton Rouge based group rather than an international one, and it needs to be just for the guys. Also note that I'm into artists that are more popular among the ladies, as opposed to the guys, and in my city are kind of seen as "horrible tastes in music".

Second, I'm looking for those who play keyboard.

Using Facebook and Craigs list I have a decent sized group of musicains to gig and jam with.
If i can find people to play the Music of a washed up Group like the Grateful Dead - then you should have no problem finding like minded fellows to jam with.
No more excuses !

Sir, I think you are a little confused. First off, you need to think about this from a buddy-buddy friendship standpoint, not a professional musician standpoint, which is what Craigslist, and Facebook music pages are used for. I'm not trying to reach those people.

I'm trying to reach those individuals who just happen to play keyboard during their free time, are NOT active musicians who play out at clubs or bars or at churches or Open Mics, but who have a passion for some of the artists I enjoy (read my profile) and have a good solid understanding of music theory and music terms and is simply looking for a friend to share his love for the music he likes with someone else who likes similar music.

As you can see, the musician section of Craigslist in my city is mostly made up of people trying to promote their music service, or looking to fill a spot for their band. And if you browse the ads, you won't see any love for mainstream pop and soft rock music as heard on AC/light rock stations.

I tried the site from 2007-2011, and kept running into individuals who had too much experience or who were didn't show a passion for pop and soft rock music. And of course, sometimes my request would reach individuals who thought I was ready to do gigs or who wanted to hire me to play with them. As the search continued, by late 2008 and 2009, my post attracted people who saw it as some stupid joke, and thus I started to get prank phone calls, and hate mail.

Then I make the worst mistake I could make. I start using the discussion boards, and get into a few simple disagreements, as well as standing up to a bunch of trolls and then before I know it, I get banned from Craigslist sometime around March of 2011.

Basically, what I'm saying is STAY away from Craigslist, unless you are looking for work, or interested in selling something.

How do you search for groups on Facebook and how do they work? Do they work like discussion forums, or what? I've NEVER used any Facebook groups at all.

Currently, I only use the site to stay updated on what my favorite artists are doing and occasionally post comments. I don't have ANY friends on my Facebook page though.

I don't feel comfortable looking on personal/dating forums. Most people on those sites are going to be looking for sex, or a date, and a lot of people on those sites are not very thorough in their profile. Some even lie about who they are. And there seems to be a lot of individuals on those sites who are shy. This is coming from my own experience, and other people's experience and reading up about those kinds of places.

I'm trying to reach individuals who are smart enough to stay away from such sites.

Fellow Musicians, You are wasting your time with this lambert guy. He's a whack job, and your'e gettin played everytime you respond to his posts.. My Advice...Put him on Ignore and don't respond to his nonsense. Eventually he will go away (Among things, He's an attention seeker)

Don't listen to Paperdog. I am NONE of the things that he's saying I am, which was said out of anger.

This post was aimed at people who know better than to say what Paperdog said, and are patient and understanding people. People who are smart enough to ask questions when they are confused. People who are smart enough to know that everything I've covered above comes from experience and aren't excuses, and is part of what is making this search a bit harder to find the desired musicians I'm trying to reach.

Now, let's get back to some of the advice that was offered. It was going great. And by the way, I appreciate the help given so far.

How do you search for groups on Facebook and how do you use them? What are some good Baton Rouge personal sites (excluding dating sites) that I can use to search for these particular music buddies?

Again, this topic was going great. Will someone please, answer the question I asked earlier before Paperdog showed up? How do I search for groups on Facebook and how are they used? I am NOT here to bother or upset anyone. The advice was fine and it was still very appreciated. But now, the same annoying people are back with their crap, typing up random crap that doesn't have anything to do with the topic in an attempt to be funny, but instead it comes off as stupid and pathetic.
