How do I talk to certain types of guys in these forums?

I really need some help trying to find some specific music buddies, but in order to do that, I need to talk to guys closer to my age who live in Baton Rouge, who like more of the artists I can play and who play keyboard or guitar and fnd out what they have tried, and kindly discuss their experience so I can find out if the place is appropriate for what I'm looking for. How do I get more responses from those guys?

Also on a side note, it would also be helpful to know how to deal with trolls, and people who might be handling a misssunderstanding wrong.

Let's keep the responses coming, but try your best to not use the "in your face" approach, like the person above did.

Go to a club or a music store and talk to other musicians.
Maybe even your church
Do a search using Bandmix,
Run an ad "looking for"
Post some of your music to allow others to hear.

Most importantly use your head... you probably have some answer already just get off your bum and get to it.
There's no exact formula to follow but persistence is one hell of an attribute.
Good luck to you.

Keep them coming. This is too general. I need specifics, and I need to talk to guys around my age who live in my area and who like more of the artists I'm into which is NOT very common amongst most ACTIVE musicians in Baton Rouge. Most ACTIVE musicians in Baton Rouge play classic rock, hard rock, and indie rock music, rather than mainstream pop and soft rock.

Churches are NOT appropriate since A LOT of the artists I cover are controversial and also a lot of the music I play is secular music. For example, Adam Lambert is gay. Madonna, and Lady Gaga have racy videos and songs. Churhces will usually focus PURELY on Christian music, which is not something I want to commit to.

Second, my knowledge of music stores in my area that provide other services besides retail and where I can mingle with other keyboard players is lacking. I only know of one--Guitar Center--and it's not working. And of course, as the name suggests, it attracts mostly guitar players, not keyboard players.

If I want to try a club, I want to make sure it's a daytime one, and one where I don't have to worry about running into guys on drugs and heavy drinkers. Also since I'm legally blind, and thus cannot drive, I would need to make some good friends online who would be glad to take me and show me around Baton Rouge.

I've been posting "looking for" on sites like Craigslist, and Baton Rouge Rocks and those became duds around 2009, when people started sending me hate mail.

I have also put up samples of what I play in several different forms, but now, I don't have a way to show it off locally. I could post my YouTube video here, but other than that, I don't have a local section to post it. The site I used before YouTube was Myspace, but once people started using Facebook, nobody was checking out my Myspace page anymore.

Go to where people are of the same age, go to a University or Community college. Specifically the music dept. RUN OR POST ADS EVERYWHERE supermarkets, Music stores college bulletin boards etc...

Surely somewhere there has to be some musicians.

Collaborate on-line.

Do you think there's some special place that every 28 yo hangs out? Last I checked it's still the bars!

Post your music maybe if it's good enough it will attract what you're looking for. Most musicians want to hear something.

But do something other than asking for help or just accept it is what it is!
Maybe you're just in a chitty music city.
And just because someone goes to a church doesn't mean they don't listen to the same music as you. Controversial or not.

Sir, I would give colleges a try, but I dropped out of BRCC because I wasn't having any luck there and they didn't have any good pop and soft rock music clubs.

And of course, bars are NOT my thing, and most bars in my area are going to attract people who are into classic rock, and hard rock, which is not for me.

Note the bolded section: actually it does, especially if the only people I'm making friends with are the young guys who WORK at the church. I tried that at Healing Place and Bethany and I had to leave those places.

I would run an ad at another music store, but I don't know of any besides Guitar Center, and Zeagler. Zeagler is not that great since they will hide the ad behind the front desk rather than putting it up on a bulletin board.

Putting ads up at supermarkets is not adviseable. I don't know how different grocery stores are in your area, but here in Baton Rouge, most people just want to shop for their groceries, and leave.

Also take note that I'm legally blind and thus have limited transportation and cannot go out whenever I feel like it.

Sorry dude there is no magical place that I know of with a bunch of 28 year old musicians playing pop music in need of a keyboard guy just for the fun of it!
As I said before Good Luck to you!

Whoa! Why are you assuming I'm looking for a magical place? Just something much more promising than the current specific places I've mentioned. And also why are you under the impression that I'm looking for guys who match my age exactly? I stated that I was looking for people in their 20s, not people who were 28 years old.

And sir, please give someone else a chance to respond. Preferrably a guy in his 20s who lives in Baton Rouge, and likes a wider variety of pop and soft rock music. Someone who doesn't live in Baton Rouge is not going to be able to point me to some specific music stores, bars, clubs, music schools, and other stuff, in my area.

And aside from that, I need to talk to him about his experience to see if he found similar success there.

Respectfully, find another hobby. You're not cut out for the music biz. It eats people like you for breakfast.

Why do people assume I wanted to be a part of the music business? I mean, seriously, the same thing happened on Craigslist and Baton Rouge Rocks, and even through Guitar Center, and BRCC placed ads.

I have stated numerous times that I'm looking for friends who just happen to play guitar or keyboard but who still need to work on some skills and are just looking for some friends to hang out with.

Depending on how things work out with these friends, if something big does happen that's fine, but that's not the goal of what I'm trying to do. This was just supposed to be a fun activity to do with some close friends, in addition to doing other leisure activities, such as having lunch together, playing video games, and just whatever.

Let's keep the responses coming, but this time, please use wisdom when posting, and thus, try not to make any foolish assumptions. If there is something that is confusing you, just ask, and I will help to clear up the missunderstanding.

As I put in the other thread, use the Bandmix Browse feature to find other people in your area.
I don't think anyone was trolling you - you just didn't like the answers you were getting. Posting on public forums requires a thick skin.

I would use the Bandmix browser, but a lot of those people don't represent themselves well. And as I noted, pop and soft rock music is NOT very popular in Baton Rouge, and "pop" isn't a searchable genre on here. I need to make sure that the guy is in his 20s, easy to get along with, outspoken, can play by ear, and is a keyboard player. I also need to make sure he likes and covers some of the key artists I'm listing here: Madonna, Lady Gaga, Adam Lambert, David Archuleta, David Cook, Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Adele, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, and such.

It's not so much that I didn't like the asnwers, as the person didn't realize that I already knew what to do in general, but needed to know of some specific things to try in Baton Rouge.
