Way to general a question for me to bite on.

Either sex can sing fantastic or suck depending on the individual.

What does 'better' mean?

Tarja Turronnen ex Nightwish is an opera singer who does heavy metal and you'll be unlikely to find a 'better' singer. But listen to her "Phantom of th Opera" duo with Marco the bass player and it becomes obvious that neither is 'better' than the other.

Do you mean for a certain context, a type of music or your band? Probably need a lot more detail for this to be a useful thread.

Not really an easy one to answer. I know men and women who sing great.... If a singer can carry a tune, the only thing that remains is whether or not you like the timber, texture and tone in the voice. So its no longer about who is better, rather its more about which voice you prefer. (We tend to be biased toward our own gender... I mean, you wont hear me raving on about Sarah Brightman , but she does have an excellent voice. Is it better than Pavaratti? Only you know the answer to that one.

It an "apples and oranges" question.

Both taste good and are edible fruit, but still are distinctly different.

I feel that women have a more natural ability to sing and men have to work at it. One is not better than the other but it just seems to be more natural for women.

Nice . I have to admit, I did not see that answer coming.

I was afraid that this would happen all the confusion over the question. I think most of the problem was the fact that I had a hard time trying to phrase the question correctly. At the same time, I tried to leave it a bit open for more conversation. I guess I should have said not who was better, but who you would prefer to listen to. The genre of the music is up to you. Possibly explain the situation and who you would rather listen to.

Personally, I like to listen to girl singers in music like rock or soft metal. I don't want to hear them sing stuff like bluegrass (I hate that already), slower southern gospel type music, etc. Sometimes their voices just get too high for me (especially with older aged singers). Men should cover that area of music because their voices aren't so sharp. I also think that girls have a more natural singing voice then guys, though both are good in most cases. Anyways, there's my two cents.

I think that really depends on the genre and the type of music.

It would be hard to imagine a woman singing Pantera's songs or a guy singing Adele's songs.
