Creative Commons is a relatively new copy-right concept in which 'All rights reserved" can be redefined to "Some rights reserved" (I.e Mechanical license, distribution, etc) . The idea is that other stakeholders wouldn't have to jump through the hoops of getting permissions to do certain promotional actions on material.

However...I call "Bull -shit" To me, it seems like a bunch of monkey-suit wearing, Bling & Sample toting people just hitch-hiking on an artist's hard work, with a workaround that avoids financial obligations to that artist...
