Where is the music scene?

before we get into a big argument about how "no one listens to good music anymore" I want to say thats that's not what this is about. I live in a bass-ackwards town in the middle of nowhere, and as soon as I finish highschool I'm gone. But that's the question, where to go. where is the music scene, or at least the most powerfull one. Because as far as I can tell, I,m not going to get very far if my audience is non-responsive.

I think that depends on your musical style and what you want to do with your music. The closer you live to a major city the more options you will have. For example, in your state alone there's Austin, Houston and Dallas, as well many other smaller scenes.

no, it can be anywhere in the united states. ( for example, i'm thinking about going to Chicago). as for my musical tastes, iron maiden, megadeth, black sabbath, rush, and ratt are some of my favorites, but I do like alot of modern rock as well.

Over in my area it seems to be Crust Punk overkill. A little too much dandruff for me.

You could do Folk-Punk, like Phranc or Violent Femmes.

Most of the "venues" in this area seem to be mostly some variation of C&W.

Unless you count the 10 x 10 pool halls with the screaming memeies on stage and the crack heads in the parking lot.

I'd like to see screaming crackheads try to play C&W. You wouldn't understand the lyrics. But, it would be entertaining.

I think, by what you wrote, that you're looking for the next evolution in Rock, then you will have to be flexible. Check out Chicago, NY, San Fran. Spend a few months at each city. You're young, be a gypsy, travel light, don't buy any furniture, save what ever money you can, and.....My rule number one.......you listening???.....do not spend your money recording, use other people's money by giving them points on your music. A bunch of friends and musicians I knew moved to Seattle in what seems like a long time ago. They got in on the ground floor of the Grunge movement there. And you have definitely heard them on radio. I stayed in NY and missed out. Your bio states that Metal is where your head is at. That movement came a long time ago and has evolved. Doesn't mean you wont connect with a bunch that will take Metal to the next phase.
What I'm seeing out there right now is, a resurgence of tribute bands. That happened during the last recession this country had and now it's happening again. You weren't alive back then. I've yet to see the next "sound" in Rock music. But it is coming, and I'm out here waiting. And then I'll move to Kansas if I have to, just to be on the ground floor of American Creativity. Rock started here, roots are here. Damn!!! You got me monologueing!
Like I said, you're young...keep it in your heart.....and if you never become rich, I will guarantee, you will not have a more exciting lifestyle and stories about yourself.

Jesus, he won't spend money on furniture or recording, but, he's supposed to afford all that travel? What's he supposed to do? Ride the rails like a hobo? The bottom line is making the best music you can with the best people you can find, wherever you may be. Seek them out online, the local music rags from different cities, wherever. If you really want someplace to go they can give you a lay of the land before you decide.

As far as paying for studio time with points, avoid owing anybody anything. The more you do yourself and pay for yourself the fewer strings attached to deal with. Just my opinion.

Well, there you go Fithmir. You can live and play in Westland, Michigan, or Kilgore, Texas. And spend your money recording and promoting your band. Whatever you decide, just remember, Rust never sleeps.
