A friend of mine whose daughter dropped her Ipod in water wanted to know how she could play the music she bought in mp3?

This made me ask him why she couldn't anyway? Apparently there is that wonderful DRM thing installed making it near impossible for the movement of the file to windows media player for example. I just hooked up with Itunes thinking it was like a store, yeah it is but only Itune users can play and hear your music.

Am I missing something? I like MACS/Linux as everyone knows but to NOT allow media transport?

It's made me think a little about how I (Capital I) want to do business. If someone has taken the trouble to pay for your tune should I then stop them hearing it by any other means?

We should use all mediums to present our music I know.
But all this electrowhizbang stuff really eludes me.
Dont get me wrong. I love my axe and making music with my electrowhizbang, but I really don't need something hanging out of my ear 24/7.
I dont understand the attraction.
Therefore the technology also eludes me.

This much I do understand.
Limit the usefulness of technology to only your company means more profits.
They are not providing convenience, they are selling devices.

Play your music straight and true, if you behave like a phony they will crucify you.

ITunes will go the way of the dinosaur, soon, I'm predicting. sans is quite right in that they are selling devices while they make a pittance off the music.

Microsoft's version has already bit the dust.

MP3's have lousy sound. Ppl will buy anything if you tell them it's convenient, but they forget that they're sacrificing better sound in the name of portability. Cassette tapes sounded better than MP3's. There is no quality anymore. I miss that.

All popular music is turning into short crappy jingles recorded & distributed poorly.

I like my Ipod, but i dont like how you have to use thier stuff to make it work.. I set up my Limewire so that when i download a song, i automatically gets loaded into Itunes.. i have money in my itunes account, just havent found anything i need to buy that i cant get for free.. Except for a song called Hard Times by Mountain, off the Go For Your Life album... cant find the song, or even a freakin tab anywhere! Unless i wanna go on Amazon.com and pay through the nose for it.

A lot of people get around this by stripping DRM off the songs. I do it so i can put music on my PS3.

Not exactly legal if you turn around and sell or redistribute without the drm (eg. limewire, bittorrent, etc.)

Yeah I did suggest that bu apparently there was another way they found. Thanks for the reply on this. I still don't think it fair however.
