Peter Gabriel, Lennon/McCartney, there are an awful lot of ppl who can turn a good phrase, but not nearly so many that can create a good song to expand upon that phrase.

I think he means Fish, as the lead singer & co-songwriter of Marillion.
He's right, too. He was great.

You guys are coming up with really boring lyricists. Morrisey? Seriously? Morrisey's a depressed liberal douche, I hardly think anything he has to say is worth listening to.
My votes go to James Thirwell, Genesis P. Orridge, Robert Smith, Peter Murphy, Billy Corgan, and Marilyn Manson.
EDIT: I also forgot Saul Williams, MC Dalek, Aeesop Rock, Why? and Odd Nosdam

I'm the greatest lyricist of all time! Too bad I spend almost all of my time fishing. Probably won't leave too many lyrics behind when I croak...

Did anybody mention Bernie Taupin (Elton John's lyricist for many years)?
