Many years ago I did some telemarketing part-time, evenings and weekends. We used to spend most of each shift calling one state. It seemed like the absolute nastiest place to call was Arizona. EVERYBODY was pissed off on the phone there. I hardly ever made a sale in Arizona. The best state to call was Nebraska, the people were the friendliest of any place I called. Don't know if that qualifies them as unhappiest or happiest states or not. I had a couple of amazing coincidences calling people. All the calls were generated randomly. One night I was calling Idaho and the person I asked for was named Lorenzo Nash. His wife (or mother) said he wasn't home, he was at the basketball game. Later THAT evening I went home and turned on ESPN. The first thing that came out of the announcer's mouth was "Lorenzo Nash with the basketball." The game was Idaho University versus Montana University. What are the odds? ANother time I was calling Massachusetts and I got somebody who lived right across the street from a house I lived at in the late 60's. Again, what are the odds? Sorry to digress. I think rating which city is happiest is bogus at best. I wonder where Kansas City falls in that survey. I know a lot of pissed off people, so it probably is low on the "happy scale."

You'd think after watching "The Wizard of Oz" that everyone was unhappy in Kansas. Especially after that pileup on the freeway the other day.

I'm pretty happy in Huntington personally.

I was supposed to go out right about when that happened. It was about fifteen miles from my house but there was another smaller pile-up about a mile from here. Both accident scenes closed two Interstate highways. It was a weird snow event, very spotty in nature. The ice formations were very sporadic. People were driving along just fine and then hit ice, completely untreated. I didn't get out until about two hours after the events. By that time I imagine everybody heard about the wrecks and decided to stay home. Good thing too, I made it to my destination without incident. Yet another example of global warming...it's warm elsewhere...

I don't believe it, personally-having been to both places. Boulder is happy, yes, but in a hippy, "what the hell planet am I on anyway?" kind of happy. Huntington is a pretty cool place (little school named "Marshall University" ring a bell to anyone?).

Capt., I was going to disagree with you, but this snow is depressing the hell out of me...

Oregon is pretty chillin' but only in the summers.

Perhaps it isn't the city you live in, but the entire society...there are a slew of places where ppl are evidently happier & healthier than the USA.

The gist of it seems to be that the places where the ppl live in closer economic equality are the places where the ppl are happier & healthier. The wider the divide between the rich & the poor, the less happy a society's citizens will be.
