Ok so I want to help a software engineer develop a new synth kit. There is something that I do while playing that I've no idea how to explain? It's quite popular so some Drummer, somewhere on planet earth might know?

Please excuse the bad explanation:

When............
Hitting the base drum, you hit the high hat and at the same time release the high hat and drop it quickly. The effect is pretty much like hitting a China/Cymbal + Bass then damping it with your hand.

Any ideas?

A separate trigger? Touch sensitive pads? Seems rather simple, to me, to achieve.

You are cookin' the Hi hat or you are cuping the hi hat. Any other term for what you are doing is something you will just have to make up.
