My question is, do they get my point across? Do I need better riffs? Is the style decent?

Look, I know everybody plays guitar, and maybe that's why it's so hard to find people. I could easily be a bass player, but that's not what I want to do.

I need your input guys.

In answer to your questions...I'm listening, now. #1 seems a little...er...random?

#2 uses the same tone. I'd give a variety of tones if I were gonna show off my skills, but that's just me. Your fingers seem fast enough, I guess. I'd prefer to hear you actually playing either some covers or a well-crafted piece of priginal music.

#3 um..yeah, I'd get some better samples to show my skills. I like the lil squeek, though.

I've played guitar since i was 10, joined a band that needed a bass player, bought a bass, and toured with them for 3 years when i was 22, played bass and sang bv's, it was easy, what you on abart Philbozo? (mega wink)

Thanks for the input so far. I just put up a homemade sample. It's quite noisy, so if it's hard on everyone's ears let me know so I can get rid of it. There's no lead unfortunately. I only have limited things to record with. So, hopefully it's bearable!

Now, none of that has to do with your playing per se... or your choice of material. It's a comment all about the presentation.

Have you listened to any of the stuff folks are posting on here? Some of the tunes we give 1.5 minutes of our ear and time to have taken weeks of recording and production... born of a germ of inspiration worked to a polish over time.

And other stuff around on the net it sounds like they plugged in and riffed into audacity and posted it as quick as possible.

So it was hard for me to really access you or your playing thru the "shoot from the hip" quality of the recordings. Relax, you sound like you know what you're doing... now take the time and actually do it.

Or, if like me, you lack the patience, go build a band and drag them to a studio.

On the Bass player comment, I'm with philby. I spent YEARS trying to find a real bass player, teaching people who owned a bass the difference for going on 30 years. I've been offered "Pro" Bass playing gigs because I know the difference between a guitar player on bass and a bass player and strive to be a bassist when holding the instrument.

If you need a gauge to tell if you're a bassist or not, learn "Can't Get Enough of Your Love" by Bad Company. A Bassist will figure it out in half the time and have the song bouncing along merrily with a semi decent drummer.

A non bassist, even perfectly qualified on several other instruments will never quite master the dance of the bass between the musical instruments and the percussion. They will spend too much time trying to quantify the "changes" and riffs that are not really there as the bassist "walks" thru the song.

It's Classic Rock for a reason. That's an early Rembrandt or Picasso of a different art form there.

My current bass player is more than competent on guitar, Keys, vocals... and yet when he holds a bass, its obvious what his calling was.

I sincerely hope that someday you meet and work with someone who understands the nuances of the Bottom end so that you will know the joy of the freedom it provides to a song.

I'm almost ashamed to even be posting this stuff. I went to school for recording, but there's nothing you can do if you don't even have mediocre recording tools to use.

I'm just crossing my fingers hoping that someone will get a general idea of what I'm doing, and be willing to take it to better levels i.e. polished and understandable. I think in my case, it would take someone who could visualize it with better quality.

You're definitely right about being a bassist. I hear a lot of these guys just following the guitar, rather than staying in key, and supporting the drums. I have some knowledge of playing this way, but I would get stomped on by your pro bassist anyday. I guess I just have a strong desire to play because I miss the stage and all the interaction that comes with it. But bass is not my home. I could hold things down, but it wouldn't be the "wow" factor.

What I need is a midi plug in, some good mics and monitors, and then, my ideas would be animated rather than stale. I mean, my guitar equipment sounds great, and it's just screaming to be used.

But I am like you. I'd rather find a couple guys, work on some songs, pay for a good demo, and get on out there.

Amen brother, that's me... would rather be playing with the guitar than tracks on a computer.

ok, that was some nice stuff said there and i agree mostly, nice ideas on their own, if you put them together with a band either in a room together or more so in a studio environment, the issues with those ideas would highlight themselves and would sort themselves out i'm sure, good starting blocks though and yes you do have an unusual style, which is ALWAYS good, but they are meaningless on their own, i'm not talking down to you my man and dont get bogged down by the bass issue, either learn to do it yourself as i did or get a bassist, doesn't matter, keep writing and recording riffs they are the most important thing you can do on your own as a metal guitarist for sure, you cant have enough riffs your guitar sound sucks balls though...

So yeah, I need music behind my riffs...that's why I'm looking for a band! Should I go into a studio and pay for solo tracks like an idiot, or just make riffs of partial songs that you can decipher!?

Nice man good for you, i have to say though you could have fooled me! i'm surprised to see someone with sooo much experience coming on here with some half baked poorly played ideas that sound like sh*t looking for a self esteem boost and then get mad when someone makes an honest comment, i use a processor too (shut it Phil)..... Ok, one more word of advice, if you don't want to patronised, don't post garbage. I got some stick over my guitar sound, i didn't pee my pants, throw all my toys out the pram and make excuses, and, if you've been a drummer, put some f*cking drums on it, then you'll see how inconsistent your timing is and why i assumed you were a friggin beginner....

P.s i may go nowhere in this business, either coz i'm not good enough or i don't get a break, but at least i aint a whiney little prick...
