curious to know what is a good vocal mic to use during live shows? i am using a audix om2 for lead right now also, is it better to use a condenser mic or dynamic for onstage use? running them through a 1200 watt behringer pmp3000 with mains and monitors

the best hands down.

I agree, RG, with the SM 58 a close second.

It's a less sensitive version of the standard and has some cosmetic differences as well as no switch. The frequency curve is also slightly different.

When you've got something really loud that will have transients like a loud metal guitar or metal drums, this is the preferred model.
....or you can just stick a couple of baby socks over whatever cardioid mic it is you prefer to use

Patched through my mixer, I have 10 dollar mics that sound as good as 200 dollar mics. The quality is equal in a general sense, they just sound "different".

If you were to slide your hand down an SM58 and a Beta 58, you'd notice less noise with the Beta
Less gain is needed to bring the Beta 58 up to working volume.

If you are a singer that likes to pull back, the beta handles the sweet spot better with more gain before feedback.

The bottom line is, if there is a problem with the live vocal, its not the beta. Its the guy running the soundboard. The beta requires little or no eq at all.

Yeah my personal sm58 is showing signs of age.. and it might be time to (sniff-sniff) retire her from competition.

lol Load up the rifle and we'll walk her out to the pasture before I put one in the back of her head.

I haven't seen as many feedback prob's with the Beta58. That says it all for me.

I own all of these mics and I like the Beta 87a the best. It best fits my voice. It is a condenser Mic so you have to have phantom power in your mixer but all newer mixers have that.
