Thought I'd post the 2 I just wrote and recorded recently. Wanted to get some feedback. Despite just purchasing an Mbox2 Pro, these were recorded on a Tascam DP-02 digital 8-track.

Track 1 "Hate Me"
Track 2 "All My Life"

both on my profile.

Let me know what you think! .........definitely not what you'd expect coming out of Texas hehe.

Eiseime, these are very well recorded tracks. They have tremendous musical merit.
I feel, in my humble opinion these have become technical exercises, that are vital to laying down good tracks, but are lacking any fire to make them really great.
Trying to explain this ,is way to difficult as it starts to deal in the esoteric.
If you give me permission I will download your tracks and add guitar parts to maybe give you a different way to experience your own music.
I'm not saying any of it is bad in any way. My way is not your way but if I help you to grow , that would make my day.

Hate Me
Another excellent track begging for vocals.
Not that the instrumentation is bad, just the structure need vocals to add emotion. Where are those bad assed vocals man??
Dont keep us waiting !

I visited your Drowning Mona website. Are they using any of your original ideas? It would seem that you have the personel in that band to add vocals at the least. All of the tunes on your Bandmix profile page are excellent but really crying out for some vocals. It's too bad you weren't in the K.C. area. As busy as I am with all the things I do here I would volunteer to write some lyrics for your tunes. Don't you have any lyric ideas of your own? The other people in your band don't write music?

I only have time to listen to the 1st one, but I agree with both Glan and Bob, the song needs a cattle prod up its a$$ to give it some life and some vocals. Good recording, not my type of stuff, but it has potential and I like the breaks where the distortion stops for a few seconds, that adds character. Also like the one guitar note idea, also adds character.

Give it some life and some vocals, should be a good one.

One thing I forgot to add the first time. In the clean sections where the distorted guitar stops, I think a better sound would be a good idea. Listen to Bryan Adams' "run to you" or Def Leppard's "not foolin". A clean sound similar to either of those would sound very good in this song rather than the kind of muffled sound you have here with little or no treble.

My personal favorite is Over Now. Although it is missing a kickass flute part  But I like hearing your music as instrumentals.I know the other guys are dying to add vocals but as a serious non-singer I can use my solo flutist imagination on, at least, Over Now.. I also like the sound quality did you record this on your own or did you go into a studio?

You are a machine of big league proportions. Great material waiting for vocals.

Hate me sounds like a TOOL inspired piece.

I didn't dig the other one.

The demo I have up now was recorded using the same Tascam DP-02, your sound quality is better though. Did you mic up your amp and record that way? I recorded everything direct and barely knew how to use it at the time. Check out my stuff if you get the chance.

As far as your playing goes, good rythms and song composition. I especially liked the 1st riff. As the songs stand now though, all they need are vocals and maybe some leads. Good job man. 8)

eseime, great songs! Sounds good!

The DP02 is very much a "garbage in, garbage out" machine Bane, you need to dump the RP500 or choke it WAY back and mic your amp. You might do better with a POD than the RP500, for what that's worth (if you can still return the 500).. I say this because your skill outweighs your effects / modeling pedal.

Eseime.
To be honest it would be nice if you offered your obvious skills and put them into commenting on other peoples songs. Do you listen to other peoples stuff?

The.

"How am I doing now?" Is getting very boring and is more akin to Spam frankly.

Nothing personal. Have a great new year.

I don't think I can return the RP-500 now since I bought it in March... It's better for playing live than for recording I would say, and I really should have set up a mic instead of recording the whole thing direct.

I didn't really have the cash for a new mic though at the time since I was (and still am) piecing together another custom guitar, this time the neck alone cost me over $550... (scalloped ebony, etc). Did I mention I mixed the whole thing without headphones. lol

One thing I have noticed as I learn more about musical equipment is the different venues and modes of play (IE live vs recording) is how some works well in one aspect yet will fail miserably in another.
For instance: Ray our lead vocalist plays his guitar through Boss effects into our PA.
Live and loud in the mix with the other instruments it's really not all that bad tone wise. Not as thick & rich as my amp IMO but makes for a good differential between our guitars.
Recorded though the thinness of the pedals really is apparent.
I cant seem to get quite all the fullness of my amp either. Likely due to recording situation and the fact that I use the cab emulation out jack to the PA. ( I also am in need of a good mic, just cant make up my mind which one)
I look forward to hearing some completed works of your original material.
