I used to go to Celtic jams down the street from me. I also do classical Jazz and rock. I cannot imagine any music on the planet that I would not try, well except for thrash.

I play blues, although some people think I play jazz and yet others say I play blues rock. Wait a minute , we had that debate on another thread. Maybe I don't know what I play. As long as somebody is willing to pay me a reasonable fee I don't care what they call what I play...As long as they call me it's good enough for me.

Im doing alot of country, theres some good material off of the Zac Brown Band's album, The Foundation. Whatever It Is, Toes, Jolene, Free, and Highway 20 Ride are my favorite singles from the album. I dont really care for the single 'Chicken Fried', and etc. (style) of country off of the same album though.
Doing some Jason Aldean, Relentless and Wide Open are a couple of pretty good albums, and Bustin Out With Johnny Cash from his first album is OK.
Billy Currington has some good music, Kenny Chesney, and so on
I like Jamey Johnson, and I intend on doing a couple of his singles, but some of his music can be a little tricky at times, basically simple to learn but the dynamics can be hard to capture at times with certain country music, as everyone here should already know, doing mostly contemporary country instead of the more traditional and classic styles.
Im doing rythm guitar and vocals, and my brother plays lead guitar, so we're not in anyway a big sounding band by any means, but thats the way I like it.
I use a vocal harmony processor 'Workstation', and that really helps alot with vocal versatility on lead and backup vocals (Live), I do other genre's of music also when the mood and atmosphere is right. (so much for my rambling)! :D

Aren't there any musicians here that don't like playing rock music? All I ever get in my mailers is a bunch of crap about rock bands. Yecch! How about some jazz musicians? Or do they all look somewhere else?

LOL I know this thread is old, but our group is all about R&B and Doo-wop. :)

Hey - not every is limited in what they can play.
I can play rock.
I can play jazz.
I prefer jazz.
I no longer want to play rock. I played rock for years, but I got tired of all the same old progressions and same rhythms . . .
I still listen to rock ocassionaly, depending of the song.
But if they keep repeating the same thing over and over and over again - I change stations . . .
.
On the other hand - I really dislike some jazz . . .
Jazz is like wine - there's a million different flavours . . .
I like some wine - dislike others . . .
.
A lot of people progress through several styles.
Key word: progress.

Profound statement:
"Jazz is like wine - there's a million different flavours . . .
I like some wine - dislike others . . ."

I studied jazz but I play a little bit of everything. Give me a lead sheet and a groove and I am in it. Jazz is often the most complex so you are always thinking. Brazilian Samba and Cuban Salsa have the best groves I think. Coltrane is too deep for most. Commercially jazz is difficult because there are so many different styles and variations. The guitarists analogy says that: A rock guitarist plays 4 chords in front of 10,000 people. A jazz guitarist plays 10,000 chords in front of 4 people.

Jazz players are out there and the good ones have some serious chops. If you come to LA spend a night at The Baked Potato for some amazing jazz from top session players in the area just blowing off steam.

There are a few bands that aren't strictly R & R. Check out " The Vida Project " You may be pleasantly surprised.

Everyone, if you stick around here long enough you will MEET MUSICIANS who play every form of music you can think of. That has been true for me.If you are not meeting the artists that you are looking for it is your own fault. If someone is interested enough to send me a message I am thrilled.

Rock has dominated popular music for over 50 years. It is also accessible (easy to play & sound OK - [if not turn the volume up, ha!] - though nothing's easy to be really good at) as are its 2 (mainly) instruments. None of that is bad. But there's an awful LOT of it. And like a lot of anything ... Isn't it funny how a music style that was so non-conformist in its origins has become so ... conventional? Anyway OP - don't be harsh - the postings kind of reflect what's out there.
