This brings up some good points about women and rock.

I so love when 90% of the bands out there are all male, the music industry caters to nothing but men (given all the strippers and porn stars who come sign posters at the music booths for the NAMM show every year), but let a chick say she wants an all girl band - ooh so sexist. A man can be ugly as f**k and be respected as a musician or actor, but unless a chick is young and pretty, the industry wouldn't give her the time of day. Sexist is as sexist does.

What a crock.

It wasn't always like that, though, Chaeya. Look at Patti Smith, or Janis Joplin, or Mama Cass.

Today's music market is almost as bad for the men, though, as far as expectations about "the look" goes.

I tease ppl who want anything uniform about their band members, be it all girl, all male, all gay or straight, all white or any other ethnicity. It's difficult enough to get 3-7 ppl together who can stand to work together as it is, without putting extra restrictions on things that have NOTHING to do with the music.

I know a lot of men that could work just fine in a fem-driven band, & not lose one whit of their own sexual identity. I even met a woman or two in my life who could handle working in a male majority without stirring things up too much.

I agree with you, Phil. In the past, there were far more female musicians and talented women songwriters like Heart, Joni Mitchell, Carley Simon.

It just cracks me up when I see guys talking about sexism on the female end. My friend has a guitar company that caters to young girls, she sells a lot of Daisy Rock guitars. Some a-hole decided he wanted to come up to her at a show and whine about there's no such thing as a "female-oriented" guitar and how the show was sexist in their exclusion of men. Honestly? You're going to pay to get into a Women in Music festival just so you can bitch?

I was telling Cisco yesterday that there are hardly any known women rock singers anymore. I know they're out there, and some may have a decent following, but I mean, mainstream. It's pathetic.

As for men, it's just ridiculous now because of America's addiction to age. I don't want to turn this into an age discussion, but it was funny, when I was 7 & 8 years old, most of the music I was into were all played by adult musicians, who were as old as my parents at the time. No one gave a rat's tail how old they were, the point was how good the music was.

I wouldn't want an all-female band, honestly, I'm just about if you can play or not.

"I'm just about if you can play or not."

You got my respect. I am not fond of female musicians, but if you can play one cannot deny respect. It's just denial, plain and simple.

Added points for destroying Taylor Swift's career if she doesn't do it before you do. lol

"As always, should any member of your team be caught or killed, the Secretary will disavow all knowledge of your actions. And Mike Hunt, the next time you go on holiday, please be good enough to let us know where you're going. This message will self-destruct in five seconds. "

One thing that's really began to annoy me is the comments on female musician's videos on youtube. Looks at someone like, say, Meytal Cohen. All the comments are about how hot she is, and only some of them mention the music. It's disgusting. There's a million camwhores on youtube for you to go say that kind of sh*t to, go watch their videos. She's playing music for the enjoyment of others. Quit being dicks...

It's the same with bands like the agonist.

We get it.

She's hot.

But this is a song, not a porno. Comment on the music, dickweeds.

Sorry, diz, but I'm a guy. If she plays well, that's fantastic. If she's hot, too...well...I'm prolly gonna sit up & take notice, in spite of myself...even though I gripe all the time about substance in music, a pretty face (& accoutrements) will always get my attention, I'm sad to say, cuz I'm not very evolved, really.

Marina Malakhova of Staya was quoted: " The idea of our band is to prove, that Russian rock-scene isn’t only for men!"

But, what if Staya were made up of 'not-so-hot' looking women?
