damn if I didn't give my eventual wife credit for me having the first bass (her life was responsible for the person who sold me the bass being around to sell it to me) and when we started "dating" she was supportive from the start

Well to be honest with you all.... I posted to the wrong topic. I thought this was being posted on the "Do you have what it takes to be in a band" .... something like that. I have been attacked on that topic and have just had it. I certainlly don't want to offend anyone but there are rude folks here that really push your buttons. And it just keeps getting worse as the topic continues.
I appreciate all the positive feed back and posts. And sorry that I let the bad seeds get the best of me.
I came on here with good intentions to help someone out and thought I would be successful but it just didn't happen.

I wish you all the very best in whatever you seek.

Don't get me started on this topic. In my music career this might be my number 1 pet peeve. I've seen world class bands break up over wife and girlfriend issues. You simply CAN'T let a significant other get in the way of your music. You have to tell them from the getgo that this is what you do and who you are, and NOBODY WILL INTERFERE WITH YOUR MUSICAL CAREER, NOBODY. Capiche? Later...

I think it really comes down to having people in your band with the same level of commitment to it. If a guy isn't commited as much as you are he's going to let the wife or girlfriend get in the way because he doesn't care enough to stop her. The bottom line is this, what do you all want to get out of it? If it's to hit the big time you'd better make sure that nothing else will get in the way of the band members being completely on board. All it takes is one anchor to bring you down. I've become fully convinced that one of the reasons that bands "make it" is because they really have no choice its all they can do, in every sense of the phrase. If someone is willing to let someone else get in the way of that then they don't have what it takes in the first place.
On the other hand, if you're like me and the brass ring has come and gone and all you want to do is play live and get paid, then you can afford to loosen up and let things happen as they do. If all you're doing is playing for fun then just make sure it's still fun. If I can't have fun playing I don't want to do it.

I, have a wonderful wife that accepts the fact that music was my mistress long before she was in the picture, and that's that. She supports it, (sometimes I can tell she's a little put off after I spend five, six hours in the studio, but she holds it in well, I s'pose) and has stuck by me through all the nonsense... maybe she's just waitin til I'm famous... heh heh

yes, womens do interfere with band business and the creative juices. And I'll give you a perfect example.

Lennon rocked, in more ways than one.

Yukko was just a coattailer and still is. I used to go watch a popular surf-punk band around here called The Gamma Rays. One night the singer belts out "You know, I just don't get the guy who shot John Lennon. Why in the f**k did he do that when he had a CLEAR SHOT at Yoko Ono?"

Some guy rushed the stage and tried to hit him but the bouncers pulled the guy down pretty quick.

Absolutely. Too much acid twisted John's mind around itself long before Yukko entered the scene, along with a number of other drugs, and he was getting well into a heroin habit when Yukko came along. By his own admission he did LSD hundreds of times, he loved it. That's what brought us Yellow Submarine, Magical Mystery Tour, Sgt Peppers...A little orange pill and the world turned into a Yellow Submarine with John at the controls...

She was just a coattailer, as Irmie so aptly put it, and heroin was probably the main thing they had in common, probably kept him from seeing what a nasty little manipulating b&^tch she was for a long time too. She was furious when John recorded with Harry Nilsson, haunted the studio and almost ruined the entire sessions, caused several ugly scenes, most likely the only reason John and Harry didn't throttle her was lots of booze and smack...but mostly booze at that time. They were both drinking a lot (Harry and John). I think John was mostly off the white horse at that stage, Yukko wasn't, she'd hide in the bathroom to do it, John knew when she'd start throwing up but rarely said anything.

Ugly little critter she was...is...

Read "The Lives of John Lennon" sometime, interesting read.
