But in my experience, the more science discovers, the less some people want to know. They can't be bothered with it or it just doesn't seem important to them. There's also a very real fear of science among some people, and this is very concerning. We Americans are already behind many other nations in science, math and other disciplines, and our kids are not keeping up. This country won't fall to invaders; it will be lost by us.
There are many scientists themselves who fear some of the advances in science. For example one of the scientists who created the atomic bomb said "We are all sons of bitches now." Of course he was referring to the future possible obliteration of us by us. Some of the top genetic scientists are saying that we are advancing too fast in genetic research. What will be the long term effects of humans genetically engineering future humans? Will everyone "program" their children to have blonde hair and blue eyes? What effect will choosing traits have on humans thousands of years from now? The problem is we DON'T KNOW THE MATH. There's so many factors that it's impossible to tell what is going to happen. It is also possible that genetic engineering will produce a race of humans who CANNOT SURVIVE WITHOUT CONSTANT MEDICAL INTERVENTION. It is entirely possible that autism is a result of damage caused by vaccines. There is an ever increasing number of autisitic people being born. Maybe we are ALREADY seeing the deterioration of humans CAUSED by humans.
Fearing science is healthy IMO. Things are accelerating too rapidly. It's possible that the geometric increase in scientific data is outstrippping our ability to SAFELY PROCESS it.
As far as our country falling behind the rest of the world in science and math I believe that is partly our bureaucratic red tape getting in the way. Our government needs to strip itself of a massive amount of paperwork, unnecessary taxes, unnecessary fees, unnecessary licenses, etc. Our entire system needs to be wiped clean and we need to start over and GO BACK TO A TIME WHEN READING, WRITING, AND ARITHMETIC WERE TAUGHT AT THE EARLIEST LEVELS OF OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM. We also need to get back to a rigorous physical education system, and also TEACH MUSIC AT THE EARLIEST LEVELS. Music has been proven to greatly increase learning of other subjects. Our children are fat and out-of-shape. Phys ed and gym should be re-introduced. Healthy bodies and healthy minds go hand-in-hand.
