Well, it's official - I'm getting a "good hand job" from the "good hands" ppl at Allstate!

Rat bastids wanna pay me a mere $3,975 for my car, telling me they compared it to other similar vehicles in my area with similar mileage.

BULLSPIT!

I did a little comparing of my own, & in this area there are many Explorers with more mileage going for up to $6K. Book value is $5,400, & I think I may be in for a long hard fight with them, just to get the replacement value that I'm SUPPOSEDLY insured for!

I'm insulted by this crap. Ya know, you take good care of a vehicle, insure it for replacement value, & when something happens they just wanna flook ya. I am NOT giving up without a fight, & when all is said & done, they may just end up owing me even more for the hassle factor, not to mention time without that necessary car! I can't work AND drive the wife around to her job & make any money. And they think I'm just gonna roll over & say "thank you?" WRONG!

Where the hell is MY bailout?

Getting a bit too flusterbated by it all. Where's my new 9mm? Could be time for some target practice!

Damn I hate having to deal with the rip off artists, esp when I'm kinda at their frikken ruthless mercy!

Watch for the mushroom cloud over Hedgesville.

Tell them that you will accept blue book value or they can repair the vehicle.
In other words, you wont accept the 'total' if its less than $5400.
I know they want to total it, but that doesnt mean that the damage is non-repairable.
If they dont want to agree to the blue book value or to repairing the vehicle, they will be contacted by an attorney.

(And by attorney, I mean pitchfork)

Philby,
The first time I drove through Hartford, I was astounded at the opulence of the insurance skyscrapers. That got me thinkin'! " (little voice in my head)... These caksukkas gotta be makin' a LOT more money then they're worth!
Except for the mandatory Liability, I havent insured a vehicle in my life. I've been drivin' since 1966, and , except for a couple of deer kills, never wrecked. I figured that if I do, I'll cut my losses. At present, I'm way ahead of the game.

I don't waste money on expensive cars. Rather invest it in land, building material, tools, and musical stuff. :)

What kind of tree was the car smashin' culprit? Might be worth a good buck as timber, if there are any loggers in your area. (never cut up good timber for firewood if ya can help it.)

It's a nice straight pin oak, HJ. I could prolly get some bucks out of it, if I search around & find someone who wants it. I'd take it to the sawmill, myself, but I have my hands full right now. There's a nice red oak that just fell, too. I have a lot of useable standing wood, but I wanna keep most of it. I like having the trees when they aren't attacking my car.

Place I rented before I bought here dropped a tree on my car & one on the house. Perhaps I should rethink my love of trees, eh?

Phil,
Cin & I shelled out some big bucks last summer to take down a couple of dead oaks that were threatening our new house. I hate to lose trees too, but I wish I would have takin those three down when I could have done it myself!

Cpl yrs ago I spent $800 to drop a stand of five that were growing in my driveway. They were all splayed out real skeery-like. I'm glad they're gone, cuz now I can get satellite.

If ya got satellite you're gonna maybe have to hook up that telephone land-line again.. At least that's the way it works here.. not to add to your woes, Philby,. :|

philby nit pick the hell out of the damage to your house ad things in there that you just want to get fixed it doesn't matter whether it happened in the storm or not if you can think of any reason it could have been done by the storm add it in, thats the way the game is played. We added all kinds of things after the hurricane like a new paint job, I had just painted it last June but you can say there was hail. By the time that ajuster left our house she new what was going on and all I wanted was to cover the deductible, hell they gave us more money than I thought they would, even wound up getting the wife a nice Huuuuge diamond ring. :D

I'm a Tree Hugger too, but I would have to remove any that were a threat to my house... if I had one.
A lot of people crop their tree's down rather than felling them. It looks a bit un natural for a while, but once they regrow a good head they look good again. If I had woodworking tools those branches would all get used .

Z - I dropped the land line last spring. I only use cell phones, now. the sat seems to work fine for the 'puter, though, for the most part

See, Zip? We gots those, too. We're real modern out here in the STICKS. We even get service through the hills, for the most part.

Seems like there's a cell tower on every hilltop...LOL

JH - I'm not looking to rip off the ins co or to "play the game." I just want my stuff fixed that's insured & broke. Keeps my karma clean that way.

Hayden - Ya know...I got a dremmel & a whole buncha woodworking chisels, but I just never took the time to do anything with them, much. I did make this scrying table, once, just for kicks. It was round, & had the houses of the zodiac on it like a clock face. Then I took a plum tree sapling that someone had cut down & sliced it into little discs, which I carved with the symbols of the I Ching, on one side. The idea was that you drop the discs on the table & read it, somehow, except I don't know anything about that sort of thing, so it was useless to me. I gave it away & never heard if it worked or anything.

I am not saying rip off the Ins. co. but from my past exp. with them is if you don't play the game you are the one that will get ripped off.
Unfortunately this is what they exspect so that is the game they play.

You could be right, JH. They just called me with an estimate on my car that was $400 LESS than the original, but they magnanimously offered to stick with their 1st offer. I ain't biting.

Hey Phil,
Just curious,is the policy your filing a claim against your home owners, or comprehensive auto policy?
HJ

p.s, Find someone to take that tree away for ya so you don't start goin' nuts with the chainsaw. I'm concerned about your present run of bad luck, and a nasty kickback could put a serious damper on your playin' career.

HJ has a good point you can approach this from several angles and trust me honesty is just going to hurt you, the Ins. co. are about as honorable as R. Allen Stanford or Bernie Madoff, and as a workin man I have zero sympathy for any of them, we are talkin survival here, and I hate to sound calloused here but get with the program for the sake of your family bro.
The reality is philby even tho you have been paying your premiums over all these years your ins. co. only cares about their bottom line and they don't give a rats ass about you or your family and they will use your good intensions and honesty against you to give you as little or nothing at all. At least consider the advise I offer and know that it is coming from someone very experienced and has recently seen it all bro. and if they send you more than you expect do not return it put it away for an emergency fund or for your kids college.
