I don't like anoyone in my band to have anymore than a couple of beers prior to going on. Afterwards, I don't care unless it's their turn to drive.
I used to drop alot of acid and felt it opened myself to new sounds and ideas when I was writing, helped me connect to my innerself - but I would never play a gig like that.
I would never condone any recreational drug use that was harmful or addictive like coke or heroin but pot, hash and the occasional dose of acid doesn't make me not want to be in a band with them.
I don't do any of that stuff anymore, just alcohol and that is destructive enough.

Overall - Yes. Proper use of drugs can be beneficial to music experimentaion. History has proven it. No - this is not a positive message.

whaaaat  ???????? so you think drugs did good for music but you telling the our youth not to do it..........? you are sitting in the middle.. Miles' drug of choice was heroin. actually so was jerry garcia ray charles dude from stone temple pilots, sid viciuos and fwaafwaafwa blahblah blah...... so you condone the acid dropping, weed smokingand drinking done by the dead heads and of course other fans. is weed not addictive....? yep just as much as drinking and smoking cigarettes. I am very liberal when it comes to this...Ibelieve that children should be protected from these things but adults(legal) make there own choice..If we legalize we can organize and maybe just maybe have a good time without getting arrested...by the way i've been drug free for years i drink about 7 times a year but unfotunately i smoke cigarettes...the decision to stay clean was not because i reallyhad a problem or really wanted to not be high..i quit because i needed to be a father and provider..... i believe if you can't get a job in a day do everything you can to change that...i can go tomorrow and c get a job anywhere.

The drug "enhancement" thing regarding the performing musician arises because of their proximity to the Shaman. Many of them use drugs as well, to achieve an altered state and do their thing for the village (whatever that may be, prophesying, healing, banishing etc.). It's really not that far of a leap, considering that music from its origins has been regarded as a connection with a divine force (The Muse).

It certainly isn't the proper message to expound in today's society, but it is a fact. And no, I don't think this is a great excuse to load up a needle for your kid.

Good points across the board.

I recall hearing "Ol, Two Liver David Crosby" talking about my generation one time. He said (and I miss quote) {" we were right about peace, equal rights, and love. Not so sure about drugs."}

No, I don't believe pot to be addictive. You may want to be stoned but it's a mental thing not physical. Not like an addiction to coke or heroin.
I did weed, hash and LCD regularly and when I quit, I just did. No ill effects. Not like when I cold turkey stopped smoking cigarettes, I had physical withdrawals and became very short tempered and violent for months. LOL!
I think it's plain sad for people to use heroin. Nothing but bad news comes from using it. Losers do it and losers die from it. I don't care how great a musician you are or what cool songs you wrote - Heorin = Pile of Sh*t.

I have no problem with people smoking weed, unless it becomes so much of a lifestyle that they get too lazy to do anything else but hang out and smog. LOL - but in general, weed and hash are not near as bad as alcohol.
Alcoholics are as big a loser piles of sh*t as heroin users. They destroy lives due to the addiction. I've never seen getting a weed buzz causing a guy to get violent and beat people up, not saying it never could happen but it would be very rare compared to a drunk.

I drink, but I don't allow it to control me. I'm a social/recreational drinker.
I'm not one to cast stones - I'm just giving my opinion. I don't believe kids should have any access to recreational drugs until they are old enough to decide if it's right for them.
LOL - maybe I've become a stick in the mud with age.

There is no scientific evidence to indicate that pot is physically addicting, but it sure as hell can be mentally addicting. I've seen it personally. Some people can just shut down on it, their motivation goes bye-bye, their aspirations, their ambition goes bye-bye. All they want to do is lay around and figure out where their next bag is coming from.

A real shame.

F*ck all drugs. I will never touch that crap. I hate anything that impairs my thinking process, that includes alcohol.

Peace, GuitarAnatomy.

alright addiction and dependacy. not the same thing. ive seen very many pot smokers go thru a detox(very light physical effect) and also a deep mental thing..........see alot of pot smokers----i mean pot SMOKERS can be very responsible but that high is making something. my wife one of my bassists my cousin my college friend dave ETC ETC.....went into a deep depression when they quit smoking....they all still smoke today.......i think thats dependacy.............chacing a high is an addiction...............( My interpretation ..whats yours?) seriously when anybody does anything everyday for a long time i think there are serious withdrawls. some you can see some are in the back of the head and just come out all of  a sudden

I thought I knew it all, one day when a guy I worked with (I was 18 at the time), an old hippy named Dizzy, was talking to me at the rear of the offices we worked in. He produced something from his pocket that later become known to me as a peyote button.

I looked at him and said "I don't understand." He said "You eat this little cat-shit tastin' crap and you REALLY won't understand."

Being 18 and full of a sense of immortality, I grabbed it from his hand and ate it. I spent the next hour getting sick, then the next eleven hours in someplace that....definitely wasn't here.

Once was enough for this cowboy on THAT rodeo, but ohhhhh boy...what a ride.

^Good thing you stopped and did not continue on that stuff, or who else would I get my Middle Eastern music from?

I could get it from Google? But Google stinks... Lol.

As I said, the only thing I am obsessed with is Ginger Ale, *Shrug*.

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.
