I though I could discern a difference in the diameter of the two instruments but depth perception is difficult in photos.
Are they of different ID as well ?

George, what do you mean "ID". Before you answer let me tell you that the majority of flutes are soprano...like Ian Anderson's flute. There is one piccolo who is at the very end on the right ( front ). The piccolo is a tiny flute the size of a tin whistle. The only flute that transposes is the alto flute.

Oh!!! I have to look that up but they're big. I can't tell you the actual measurments but the bass flute has a bigger diameter than the alto. Both have a bigger diameter than the soprano or regular flute.
