Ouch!

Well, eat sh*t & die, junior!

LOL

I can take criticism as well as the next guy, but there ain't a single damned thing I can do about being old, so go stuff yourself. You got no respect for my abilities or my experience? I'll bet I can play rings around you, bub, in about a dozen genres.

Uninteresting? Well, I find most modern stuff to be pretty bland, myself. No leads. Clumsy power chords going over & over. The same old gravelly voices saying things I can't understand. A total lack of melodic content. Lousy lyrical content, as well. Over-processed instruments so distorted I can't differentiate a single frikken note...the list goes on, so you can have your "new" & "fresh" pure crap, cuz what I've heard for the most part isn't worth hearing.

As far as experimentation, I haven't found anything really out there that hasn't been done, & done better than the newer stuff coming out, unless you're talking about that stuff that sounds like my 2 year old grandson could have done it better.

Perhaps you could expose me to some of that really cool stuff that you seem to think is so much better...who knows? You might win me over in spite of the piss-poor way you've introduced yourself!

Have a nice day!
:D

Okies, I rebootifried my 'puter & got your lil song to load. It ain't all what I'd call horribly bad, but it is kinda bland, don't you think? I mean, it doesn't really GO anywhere, does it? I was expecting some really far out prog thing, but all I got was a lil jam in 3 chords, with damned little jamming, really. Where's the fresh & new? It's the same old, far as I can tell. & the bass was too loud, too.

If you're such a musical genius, I'd expect you to be able to wow me better than this circular vanilla directionless stuff. Is the difference that you're 21 years old? Is THAT what makes it new & fresh & different?

You also need to work on your bass playing.

You do know how to make a 1st impression, I'll give you that!

LMAO

Everyone on this site sucks? Don't look now but YOU are on this site. Draw your own conclusion. Your track is OK but the bass sucks, it sounds like a bullfrog in a swamp. Just sayin'.

Say what you want about my style, I don't care. But your music is one dimensional to me, and you only have two parts.

No trying to tear you up, but I hear an obvious Chilli Peppers influence, but it needs work.

As a guitarist my advice to you would be to get out of your comfort zone. Strumming away is playing it too safe.

You have a lot of potential to do some cool stuff...especially when you get old.

On the Bandmix home page there's a box in the middle of the page that says What's New? You should click on the videos link underneath that and check out some of the videos people post on Bandmix. Yeah, there's those that suck, there's also some cool ones. Occasionally I listen to the stuff posted on various profile pages, there's some excellent talent on Bandmix. Be a little more open-minded. A lot of these people on here have been GIGGING for DECADES. That says enough for me that there's talent on here. I listened to your profile material, not bad. Not really a song there but if you get it better organized and add some decent lyrics I think you could turn it into a decent song. You're a young guy and hopefully have the drive to become something great, don't EVER GIVE UP.

Some observations on age from a dead old man, cheshire -

George Carlin's Views on Aging

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions.

'How old are you?' 'I'm four and a half!' You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key.

You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.

'How old are you?' 'I'm gonna be 16!' You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life! You become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony.YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're Just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed?

You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50, and your dreams are gone...

But! wait!! ! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50, and MAKE IT to 60.

You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that, it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You get into your 80's, and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; 'I Was JUST 92.'

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. 'I'm 100 and a half!'
May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally used up and worn out, shouting '...man, what a ride!'

You asked for it.
Your song you posted has ZERO surprises. And no vacals. You have ONE song posted. Whatever with the "old people" comment. You personify a stupid, typical, predictable punk kid. Clueless inexperienced retard. Sometimes "old people" just make music that is traditional and good. Sometimes old people make music that will knock YOU on your ear with originality AND it will still be good. Not all of course but you just lumped old people together. Punk retard thinking you are fresh and unique.
Like Phil said, YOU are on this site.

So to address your "no art, experiemental or alternative on this site..."

i didn't expect this many replies! right on!
well, first off i had been drinking a bit when i posted like 2 posts on this forum like last night, so it may have been excessively blunt. but i posted for a couple reasons, the main one being just frustration (obviously), because i joined this site like a year and a half ago, and i have browsed the musicians in my area fairly often, with out any luck in finding people to play with. now i was NOT by any means trying to say that older musicians, or some more traditional genres are not good, or not respectable, or have less merit than me, my music, my musical tastes, or people my age. but try to look at it from my perspective? as most of you that have responded made evident, you either don't believe that there is good music out there today, or are not interested in taking the time to find it, or are otherwise stuck in your ways, which is totally fine! but that's sort of a consistent thing with older people! and i just got out of a band a couple months ago with a 31 year old singer and a 33 year old drummer, and they did nothing but play the age card any time there was a discussion, and i can sing and play drums better than them both! when you guys were 21 and in bands, were you looking to play oldies with 30 and 40 year olds? probably not. and as for the people that are my age on here, most of them want to play the same stuff, so its a little frustrating. i mean i've been there where i only played blues, then rock, then metal, then i practiced nothing but shred classical and flamenco guitar, then i quit that and did punk and grunge, but something happened in the past couple years. i opened my eyes and started to search for things that haven't really been done, just anything i would consider progressive in anyway. i started to look at music not in a way where i would compare it to what i normally listen to and decide what i like better or worse but look at it from a perspective of why do the people the like this like this? what about it is desireable? so i started listening to hip-hop, techno, noise rock, jazz, reggae, death metal, digital hardcore, even gregorian chants, whatever i could find. i mean how can i actually know what i like about music if i haven't found all the potentially desireable aspects that man has created thus far? but hey! at least i got some people to listen to the only REALLY old song that i posted! and peaked some interest! haha. they weren't wrong when they say theres no such thing as bad publicity! heh. but yeah the song i have on here Double Eagle was all recorded 2 years ago in my bedroom in my parents basement with a shitty microphone and a practice amp at freakishly low volume and i wrote the drums electronically. and to be honest, its one of the more traditionally structured songs i've written, i put it up because i thought it was catchy. i have other stuff that i would consider more and less progressive. and i don't claim to be this prodigy musician, nor do i think my music is great. in fact i know that its not. i don't have the best equipment, and i only started playing anything other than guitar like 2 years ago, so collaborating all the instruments and writing lyrics, and song writing in general takes a lot of skill, and alot of creativity! there's a lot to learn as far as just writing a good song from all the old greats: the beatles, bob dylan, neil young, billy joel! but i think that things should keep moving forward. like i said, all the great artists from years ago didn't get there by focusing on their influences, or on what's already been done. they were so great because they LEARNED from them. i mean music is an artform people. as for some new music that in my honest opinion hasn't been done yet, a GREAT example is The Mars Volta, but alot of you might not be able to appreciate it. Beck is a great example, even though i know that he's older than 10 years, but his music is completely different every single album. Devendra Banhart is a bit more traditional, but still SO unique. the Fall Of Troy is an incredibly talented band. if you hear the intricate guitar parts and then realize that same guy is singing too?? nuts. Heatbox is SO talented, RATATAT is a really awesome instrumental duo. Sludge/Doom a good example would be Noothgrush, Electric Wizard, Eyehategod, Yob etc.

neanderpaul, i REALLY did enjoy your video! and your style is pretty unique, and you do it all yourself too! so i can relate. very nice.

im honestly not a big chili peppers fan, but otherwise i appreciate all the criticism, constructive or otherwise!

well im sure there's some other sh*t i didn't address, but f**k it. thanks everyone.

as far as my other music ive worked on in the past and slightly more recently.

i hope to hear some more criticism! i know its not perfect, but i wouldn't say a single one of these songs is ready to be released on a cd, but im ready to find me a band instead or sitting by myself recording ridiculous sh*t that noone's gonna like at all.

and don't be too butt hurt by my comment ;) we're all here just doin are own thing, and i know i don't know everything, or really all that much at all in the grand scheme of things. so there's something i can definitely learn from everybody! i just don't want to play in a band with some of them, and that's what i came on this site to do. don't hate me?
lol

peace

As far as you drinking and posting I have done that myself and that is perfectly forgivable. But when you talk about the older generation being close minded and our music sucks. You should be listening and learning from us thats what I did when I was 21. I respected the older wiser more experienced musicians and I listened very carefully. Those older guys you played with in their 30's (my that is old) NOT! Well thats not our fault they pissed you off. One thing you really need to learn my man is patience One thing you absolutely have to have, to be a good musician is PATIENT! YOU SEE WE DIDN'T GET RESPECT FROM THE OLDER GENERATION EITHER AND NOW WE AREN'T GETTING IT FROM YOU WHIPPERSNAPPERS EITHER.

TALKIN BOUT MY GENERATION

Actually, I DID work with some ppl who were a lot older when I started out, & I learned a helluva lot from them.

Many of us are far from closed-minded, too, cheshire. I've played everything from bluegrass to country to folk to classic rock to jazz, with originals in every one of them. I've also dabbled in reggae & rap.

You actually sound a lot more closed-minded than I do, musically speaking, when you diss country & older music. Where do you think all your influences come from? Space?

I see you list Beatles as an influence...have you ever wondered what thier influences were? Have you checked out some REALLY old music, like big band stuff? There are some aspects of that that'll bend yer brain.

I just had to let a 22 yr old guitarist go, cuz he couldn't pick up the nuances of country & rock, although he could do modern stuff very well. I felt bad letting him go, too, cuz with some work he'd be good, but I'm old, & I don't have that much time left. If I wanna be on stage, I'm gonna hafta go with someone who can do the job NOW, not in a month or two.
