Don't let your band hang you out there alone... kick their butts - give them wedgies - throw a tantrum - if you have to, FIRE ANY slackers who don't have time for you and your stupid songs. Make sure instrumentalists can TRANSPOSE their parts and find the best KEY for your voice and WAIL !! COOK !! STRUT !!

This song sounds too EASY for you and I get the impression you are bored with it. I don't think it is a singer's song - whatever that means. It's mostly vocal inflections - drop it off in Nashville or make Myley do it.

I wanna hear you cut loose on something with a strong rhythmic feel to it.

But, alas -- I am a drummersinger vocalistic percussion guy. What do I know? Maybe some bongos or MORE COWBELL ! Only do songs you really really like to SING or dance to. That song is smothering you.
And your audience is the only opinion that matters anyway. Ask those people. Some songs only work for one artist, period.

Try "Undone" by the Guess Who or that Tracy Chapman song whose name escapes me right now. you know, that one. It builds very effectively from what you are doing with this song into a real nice groove. It's called gimme a reason or something... duh...
