What does colour matter? If something is presented to me as a
'Country Song' does that mean a USA Country Song or a ballad from any place on the globe because they all have them dontcha know.

However and in this instance, and again what does it matter? A song is a song, person a person. The rest is left to those willing and able pigeon slot holders.

I agree with Chippy. I have alway's believed that music has no color. I have played with lots of black folks, I have been the only whiteboy in a black club and had no problems whatsoever. When it comes to music IMO there is no color. I recall lots of times playing in all white clubs and black folks being there with no problems whatsoever. Houston for the most part is a racially diverse city. Here you grow up living side by side, you grow up together you start playing music together you play in bands together. The best bass player I have ever had the pleasure of playing with is a Black Female I played with her for 7 years hell she introduced me to the love of my life. (my wife). IMO black folks can write Country as good if not better than white folks. It don't matter, if you love what you do go for it and don't let anyone tell you, that you can't. 8)

I for one would love to see diversity come to country music.
That lame assed redneck pop crap just makes me want to puke.
I'd rather listen to Tejano, much more soul.
Who the hell wants to hear a thousand silly white girls singing about their bad divorce? Cry a river, build a bridge, and get the F over it.
Gezz people get a life!!

So what are a couple of your treasured country songs.

I dont suppose there are any.
I kinda like Lee Greenwoods rendition of AMERICA.
When I was a kid I listened to a Charlie Pride album my mom had.
Featured the old classic. Snakes Crawl at Night.
Truth be known ever since I found an Iron Butterfly 8 track in the bar ditch while out on a horse ride. I have not had much use for the genre' as a whole.

I would go to a country concert in a heart beat. I saw a Clint Black concert on TV and what really struck was his ability to venture into other genres. One arrangement I really liked was his rendition of Josie, except he did not sing. He played drums and a different singer did the vocals. I think that if you really dig into country music you would find more diversity in it that most other genres. About 3 years ago R&B singer, Nellie and a country singer whose name slips my mind recorded a CD together that was on both country and R&B charts.

I agree most of what DJ's play is about some Woman losing some Man and how she survives no matter what odds and yes I find that totally boring because men get a raw deal from time to time too.

It just seems that is how Country is portrayed because I used to give CTV a whirl quite a lot and a LOT of the music wasn't like that at all.

I absolutely agree J. Darius hit the scene hard, he's doing really well with his songs, and he's not going anywhere for a while. Maybe people will stop calling him Hootie now!

I concur with the rest of the bunch. Color doesn't matter. I think it would do the music industry some good to allow the natural diversification that is already happening in the world to seep into their recording studios.

After all, how many years have we had, for example, white rappers? I remember this being a big deal (for some reason) when Vanilla Ice, Snow, House of Pain, and other white guys were on stage rapping, but it caused an evolution to the genre.

Another great example: one of the most inventive, progressive, and evolving rock bands in the world is Fishbone, which happens to be made up of 6 black men (in their current lineup). Also, Living Colour produced the hardest rocking song known to man, "Cult of Personality." This music isn't any better or worse because of the ethnicity of the people making the music, because music doesn't see. :!:  :!: It speaks, tells stories, listens, learns, and evolves.

Now, we are seeing a rising interest in country music from hispanics and african americans, and I think that is fantastic!! This is a prime example of the evolution of music at it's finest.

I say let everyone come together, pick up some instruments, and see what happens. Great music is born this way (jazz, blues, country, rock, etc). At the end of the day, we may have an entirely new genre or subgenre of music for the world to enjoy.

I really didn't mean to get this deep... You guys know by now that I can be wordy though. :D Have a good night everyone!
