Did they cut their hair thinking it would improve their image, thus making them more money?

Sort of. See, in the 80s, most guys had long hair, mullets, whatever. In the 90s, the whole thing changed. Everything became bland and "casual." Image is very important, if you haven't noticed.

While I don't like most of their mid 90s albums, I still think it was brave for them to say: "Fck you. We're playing what we wanna play, country, alternative, whatever."
