early in his career Dave Mathews actually encouraged people to "bring a recorder" to his show's. by the 3rd trip to a room, IT WAS FULL. didn't seem to hurt him any!

I'd like to figure out a way to sell recordings right after the show, of the performance the people just heard. Un-edited.

Would be fairly simple feat actually. Logistics would be a challenge in as it take a few moments to convertand burn enough CD,s. A pay at the door and we will mail to you arrangemnt might work. You would need to announce that you are doing so during each performanceas well as have some condenser mics to record / amplify the crowds response. Evreything that goes through our PA is captured by the Zoom H4 recorder as a direct out from the monitors.

Here's an idea. Maybe somebody can figure out how to make it work.

The performance is recorded using an H2 and exported to numerous flash drives/cards simultaneously, as soon as the performance ends.
During the duplication process, interested patrons (an announcement having been made from stage) might bide their time purchasing drinks.

The flash media are refundable once the purchaser has copied their contents.

totally down with blunderingeye on this one.

Touring is where the money's at now.

Wish it was the other way around cause I'm too old to do the rockstar thang. I love playing live, but being strapped with a wife, kids, house, cars and other bills....plus GAS, and G. A. S. makes it tough to just pack it up and go.

I do alot of recording...in fact, I have 2 cd's finished and mastered, artwork ready etc...of my solo sh*t. Some is really good, I ditched what I thought was crap. I haven't sent them to the dup house for a couple reasons...1, it costs a bit of money to start it out (if you're disciplined enough to sell cds and dump the money back in to get even more copies of the cd, you can do okay....provided it's a decent product, and you are good at selling) and although I have the drive to succeed, it's hard to get out there and promote your own material...playing originals (at least in this area) unless you're playing to the latest trend or style, is a tough game. Seems like nobody in the bars and all wanna hear new stuff....wann hear the same old songs over and over....dig up a tune from yesteryear...redo it and release it.

Although I'm not into country...at all, I see the same trend there as well, except they're covering old rock tunes.

I have a new band that I love, and we will be cutting trax...I'll put together a cd, and hopefully, we'll release it instead of letting it sit idle...but it's not mainstream at all...it's like a bit of rock, fusion, jazz, blues, and funk all mixed up...but it's super frigging jam friendly....LOTS of solos by everyone....not showing off (ok, maybe a touch) but just inspired, in the moment, good music......and frankly there doesn't seem to be much of it around ...at least on radio, and any average media outlet.......except the internet.
There's plenty of new GREAT music, but it doesn't get the support it should...and ya have to put on your musical filters and just wade through the pages and LISTEN!

Peace

I aM no electronics expert stringfellow but I would probably approch from a different tack. One computer / storage area to multiple burning devices. On second thought along the prepay lines you'd be screwed if for some reason your system failed. No customer satisfaction there.

If you take names at the door for CD's to mail out, I suggest that you 'personalize' them for free.
Record a short, 5 second track on the beginning of each CD.
"This CD is for my good friend Bonnie."
.
It won't take ANYTHING to add it - record a dozen "This is for . . ." tracks, all at once, turn each one into a MP3, and put it on the CD as song #1.
.
Oh, what's that you say? Too much trouble? If you make your audience feel special, and give them a CD they can brag about, you'll boost sales . . .
I'd rather have a CD with my name on it, wouldn't you?

I like that Alan. GREAT idea! If you had (for conversation sake) 100 requests for a CD, You could personalize 25 of them. The word would still get around. Might generate some return audence in hopes they would be it the next 25. (or it might just piss them off)
