honestly... I'd say it's cause it costs $40 just to see UB40 these days(two hits ppul... two hits and $40 a ticket?????). On top of that, half the time, it's ppul lip syncing to a record.
I've pretty much given up on seeing the big acts... except for the ones I can't help but see (john hiatt, los lobos, rev horton heath)

you get more entertainment paying a $5 cover at the local bar -meanwhile supporting a musician that is REAL and is probably starving to make a living.

Better music floating around here than a lot of the big name acts can put out in my opinion. I tried to bust a cap in Peter's ass but just F/U my TV

Live acts aren't dead. They went underground because they can't compete with sugar candy.

Well, Rick, the underground ain't paying very well these days. It isn't like the old speakeasy, where ppl gathered for fun & booze anymore.

They got smarter than they used to be, & much more insidious. They don't outlaw the booze, now. They make it too inconvenient & expensive to travel effed up, & they target the places where you used to go to have fun to catch anyone who is having a good time. They ruin ppl's whole lives, now, for doing anything that takes one out of their terrible reality, even for a few minutes.

That's something that mankind has needed since the dawn of time - an escape. They wanna replace that need with crappy entertainment on TV & their own gods & horrid pharmaceuticals. You can't go your own way anymore. You must fit the mold with the rest of the good lil clones.

We're all boxed in by too many laws, too many rules, & too many young overzealous cops enforcing it all with zero tolerance for anything that stands out as being different or possibly unsafe for anything or anyone. "We gotta get out of this place if it's the last thing we ever do!"

philbymon,

It isn't paying very well right now, I'll agree. But "live" is the one thing you can't fake. Just ask Milli Vanilli or Ashley Simpson.

The entire industry is in transition. That's obvious. It's possible that when it shakes out, the wheat will have been separated from the shaff, artists will find themselves on a level playing field, and performers will enjoy earnings commensurate with their talents. As it should be.

You mean Jessica 8)
Ashley would be just fine without the media hype. Maybe I'm biased, but still...

Live acts are just harder to arrange.
Insurance, security, stagehands, cleanup crew, refreshments etc.

I love playing on tour becuase im not involved with all that, but local i am. We play small gigs that we set up too, its easy fast, and draws more and more, the more we do it. Just make arrangements with a run down place and see what happens.

Plus i blame MTV, and the rap generations.
Studio work has made ppl not need to see bands live.

Too bad the masses dont really understand that nothing recorded will ever be better entertainment than a live show done well.

Exactly. The new generations dont understand anything that isnt simplistic and digital. (Im refering to rap and R&B)
