How does someone have more fans than songs played?
On your friends Reverb site she has
Total Fans 4,338
Song Plays 631

You'd think if they were fans they would at least listen to her music... right.

Yup, as reverbnation is 99.9% musicians, the only way that's going to happen is if they pay someone for the 'friends/fans' (or 'likes' on Facebook).

So in the end what do you end up with? Is it an ego stroke? Do they think someone in the industry is going to go " Oooh look she has over 4000 fans"
Sad... This is a little kid. I guess if you want something bad enough...

Reverbnation is a good FREE place to host your music and videos, create a profile with a bio, press, blog, shows, etc. Anyone who pays them for their 'services' is probably a little naive.
I got an email from another place (similar but smaller) with a portion of an email from someone at RN, who when asked why a band with fewer fans, listens or views was rated higher than their profile was told flat out that rank on RN only marginally depended on actual numbers - those who pay for services get ranked higher.
So when I see anyone at #1, 2, or 3, I know they've paid, and it doesn't bother me that I'm at #6. 8)

Yup Mike! I think I'm around 111 for Rock in Charlotte... WooHooo!!
It's a good free place to park your music but yeah not much more than that.
Check out Nashville or Memphis sometime. There are some really good bands and artists. But I would suggest to pick a genre that you like.

Reverbnation and the like is designed for support in gaining shows.

IF you have 1000 fans and 10K song plays, you are supposed to be able to pack a room, should you be playing somewhere they can all get to.

The numbers game is to reinforce the idea that if the bar owner says OK to your setup and you post flyers for 3 weeks, you should have some people there to sell beer to et cetera.

Without those numbers to back you, bar owners/venue operators are not as likely to give you a chance unless you have some other tangible proof that you will pack the house.

It's a well designed smokescreen in reality and if you ever paid $ for plays and/or fans, you deserve to be shot down like a rabid dog in the road.
