Shop edit, beginning the composition / rehearsal stage of our new song FORTRESS.

This was the first time all five of us played this one together so there are lots of timing issues, still love to have comment and critique as we move forward in the development phase.

Now on my player . . .

Thanks

It has all the right elements to be a really good song... and it's a decent live recording. Sounds like you guys know it and are in the process of tightening it up without sounding tight.
Should be another good one when finished.

Thanks for the listen. Still really working out the details of where the various instrumentation should stop / start, the last chorus was totally off the cuff as were Chris's leads.
He'd never heard the song before that night.
The rest of us, at least had the benefit of playing different parts in the early composition phase.

Thanks JW.

Most of the writing is being done by our front man JAX.

He has been quite the blessing, despite being rather young and impetuous.
It strikes a good balance between my aged constant watchful suspicion.

Nice job on the composition... [i]Re vocal delivery. Is hes using a set of phones when recording? I find that when I use them on a vocal track, it really helps me to hear what I'm doing. Also, vol output levels on the phones can drown self out ... Keep singing... eventually the vocal strength will stick... imho

No phones . . . though we have the capability we prefer to work under our "ambient stereo environment"
All playback is in stereo, from the recording hardware back through the main PA mixer.
The sliders of the recording hardware allow us to vary the volumes or single out any combination of the sixteen tracks needed for the artist to dub his flub so to speak.

The whole studio is designed around that concept. It's simple, it's comfortable and it allows the artist / band to have an illusion of live performance so that we record not just sound but energy.
( yes, I know that sounds corny . . . but I know, you know what I mean )
