This wasn't the place to post this apparently, i just read all that dont post this and dont post that. You guys are serious!! Going hard doing this for a living, thats whats up though. I just recently got an ipad and im using garage band with an acoustic, and i just started recording a few layers on top of one another, its starting to somewhat sound like music. i can hear it building in the song, and forget about what i hear in my head!! I need more experience and knowledge though in regards to song structure, i guess what i really should do is trying to cover songs with those layers, at least thats what i was thinking of doing. Then maybe i could get everything out alot faster and spur of the moment. I can dig how motivated everybody here is. I never really tried to write music with, having in mind, me eventually playing shows, making a living, gettting rich. I mean of course if my desire to make songs and convey things to where people can relate and all that energy that you get going at a deftones show, holy sh*t man, if your into the deftones and a hardcore fan you know what i mean!! If somehow it came to that, hell yeah!!

That ship has sailed though, ha! I can hold on to it, it will always be there and everything of course, but anyway Im going to keep working at it and for me i just want to be able to listen to my own CD while driving around and for it to sound like music I love.

Im not a great guitar player by any means, no lessons, never having the paitence and always quitting on learning songs and just reverting back to messing with chords and notes and just making it up.

Ive written lyrics and poetry my whole life never really tried to make melodies with them. it was more of just a release growing up, and now being a bit older i dont write nearly as much. The ability to twist emotions into words is always there, thats for sure. The desire is there to achieve at least being able to mash together the bits and pieces of making music and wanting it to come together with my writing. and to be able to take all them books and books of writing i have that Ive shared with other people. and seen the reaction it can envoke , and to see someone hear a song and just feeling it thats enough for me!!!

im gonna keep working and make that happen!!! Thats going to be the hott sh*t!!! Yup i wrote this whole song, it sounds great, has meaning behind it, full of expression..... man i hope i get there!!!

I doubt anybody read alll this but if you did or didnt its all good, its good to start getting it out like this again!! Later.

I already commented on this in the other place you posted. Advice - don't post the same thing in multiple places, then it becomes spam.

Fun...
Love the name... don't sweat this place, you're ok everyone bends the rules sometimes.

I like the idea you recorded. Good first effort I enjoyed the musical idea a lot.

The performance needs work. So if you want to be a performer... practice more. The vocals were at times flat... you need to work on them more if you want to sing. Structurally it felt like there should've been more vocals on the outro of the song. But it's your song, and if that's how you wanted it.. cool.

I hear your passion in your words and understand. Now comes the work.
Good Luck to you.
And the Deftones kick azz! :P

Hey guys thanks for the feedback on my song, it obviously needs alot more work and isn't finished by any means but im working at it everyday, it can be overwhelming at times trying to learn how to master everything but slow and steady wins the race right?

As far as vocals I know they need a ton of work like you said in the other post, they were just a single take and on the fly so not complete at all, ive actually been trying to practice alot when it comes to that with youtube videos of practice techniques to get better at singing... i really want to get to the point where i can sing whatever it is i hear in my head when the music is playing but i guess that just takes time and practice.... I know its deep down there somewhere though i just have to find it... i was listening to thom yorke from radiohead on a podcast the other day and he was talking about how when he sings for him he's just in the moment and in his head he's ahead of the song and it just comes out naturally, i really want to get to that point, im setting the bar pretty damn high though with thom's vocal style, lol he's really in a class all his own if you ask me but thats what I want, to go low to high like that!! I know i can produce a unique sound once i get my skills up... Right now i just get "lucky" when im jamming on my guitar I will try to sing the melody i hear in my head and it will occasionaly be SPOT ON and ill think to my self yesss that was it, exactly the sound im hearing and then i'll do it again and not so much, lol

I also need to teach myself alot more in regards to song structure because I really dont know too much about it and i think i would be more confident and things would flow alot smoother if i could hop on garage band and go right into an intro lay it down with the timing perfect and everything in line and move on to the verse, bridge, chorus, and outro, basically i think if i have a better understanding of where everything belongs i will progress much quicker.... and you better believe the deftones are the baddest band in the world!!!! The energy at those live shows is awesome, i love it!!! Thanks again for the feedback and if anybody can point me in the right direction as far as song structure goes and what not that would be awesome, i know google is my friend for research but i just wish i knew someone that knew their stuff and would just break it all down for me and record a quick song so i had an example, that would be sweeet!!

no you weren't lol , i keep letting myself get too far ahead, i gotta start being more paitent so that i can really concentrate on not just the end result, but i get too damn excited!!

Sloow down, it'll get there, because i mean its not like i just all of a sudden wanted a complete song... ive been dreaming and thinking about that since i first started listening to music,

an old school home video has me singing into a mic at like 5 talking about im a rock star!! 3 of my uncles are musicians, my dads dad a drummer, nobody in big time bands or anything but they def got skills so i know its in my blood.

so probably about 15 years in the making, so can you blame me for rushing it, I just need the complete song already!!

Thats a long period of time to live up to it for me so it has to be a good song and then album. FunTheMental. Black. ,
no artwork on the front of the cd just the word black in lower case letters on the bottom right hand side with a period. Thats been the original album cover of the first one since as far back as i can remember so i should just stick with it from all the way back then. was there a snake on it? i forget?

I was thinking today, maybe trying to put together atmospheric music, not movie score but a little bit of that epic feel you get from it... like that feeling you get when you hear a movie score and it makes you feel whatever it was going on in the movie, like cmon rocky music and your all like "lets get it rock!!" hahah

I would want to try to do that maybe with that kind of music with spoken word / singing ... maybe? I think im making up a genre, hahah

So i guess im not really going for a certain genre but more so just what you can convey with music and poetry / lyrics ... sometimes when i read something I wrote that, to me, is profound and really brings me to that exact moment... its strong and gives me the same chills as the epic movie... so with my train of thought kind of being all over the place but ultimately just want to express art people can relate with, on way or the other , something, well with this at the end of the day at least I will have it playing in my car and when i hear my writing spoken, sung, or whatever i end up coming up with i get some sick chills and feel maaad good!! Sounds like a plan.
