I moved from Ohio to L.A. with a couple of friends. I stayed for 2 years and wound up married... way too young.
One friend Danny stayed for 2 months. Was more like a long vacation for him. The other one was Dana. Well... he never left. Dana study theater back in Ohio and wanted to become an actor... He's done alright but he doesn't quite make a living doing it. But he is still there and he's never given up working writing and trying.

This tune was written about that time in my life. Ahh good times... good times.

Enjoyed that!..Well written. Tells a good story. Instrumentation is well orchestrated with nice change ups. Thought the vocal could be just a lil bit hotter (out front) in the mix.

I made the LA scene too - lasted a bit longer. It was large.

I played sometimes with a keyb player who identified what he called, "sparkle." Once I brought over a very glam looking drummer to jam with him and he told me later: "That guy sparkles hard!"

I'm guessing you know exactly what I mean!

My suggestions:
In chorus/refrain 2 & 3 - a harmony to your vocal would be nice, and the lead guitar in both detracts too much from the lyrics, it should come in just at the end of each refrain. JMO

Mike T I lived there in the mid 80's Poison splattered all over Hollywood, GnR, I think maybe L.A. Guns etc... The whole scene was Glam/Trash... Even GnR wore make-up in those days. The first time I seen Slash he was passed out in a bus shelter at 11 in the morning. Didn't know who he was but you don't forget a guy wearing black leather in 80 degree weather.
I was ampless and didn't puruse music just hung out most weekends on the strip in awe of the place.

Spent more time at the beaches and State parks... Zuma and El Matador beach and camping in Yosemite. Back then you could still stay on the beaches all night w/o getting harrassed by the police. Bigazz bonfires beer/weed guitars. Looking back it was right out of the movies.

I like the harmony idea... don't know if I can hit it but I'll give it a try over the weekend.
I'll pull back the volume on the lead lines in those spots and give a listen.

Hmmm that's a good idea.

While you are at it, you know you could do a pretty decent visual imitation of BOWIE with the right makeup.

"Wake Up Ziggy Stardust", the coffee is hot and ready to drink..and that's not a hack.

Here's my LA song. I use the Atlanta based Jefferson Hotel as well since it fits better in the lyric than 'villa Elaine,' the dump I lived in when I was doing Hollywood. I lost the original music to this during my drunken pity party in the nineties. (and yeah the hunchback was real)
