Recently picked up a book called "Music as Social Life" at a friend's place, and have been reading and re-reading this since then. The book focuses on the participatory aspect of music, and its social character. The book also focuses on what it calls the "presentational aspect" of music. It finally asks and even attempts to address the question "Why music matters?" I've found it quite rewarding, and I just wanted to share this title here.
