Hope you are better than DAVE PHILLIPS in NJ.
They were supposed to do a nut job on my vintage strat and it's unplayable.
Low e string is approx 1/16th too low on the neck, costing me double to have it professionally repaired.

Well,it's not my style to bash other peoples work. An incorrectly cut nut would only cause a problem from the nut to the first fret. From your description it's hard to tell if that's the case.Did you take it back and have him check it out?
To more directly answer your question,I can't say I'm better or worse than someone I'm not familiar with but I can tell you I stand behind my work. How about you post the name of the shop who treated you right and recomend them to your friends? I think supporting the good guys is a better way to go.
Peace,Phil

lol Phil, if you were part of that, I'd be heating up my trusty set of pliers.
Maybe you need a picture to understand exactly how bad it is. (break out your little school ruler and measure your low E 1/16th lower than it should be. (I can tell YOU are NOT the tech)
When I say it's unplayable, I mean it. AND YES, jackass, I did take it back.
I went to play it at a SHOW after I had issues with my regular guitar and that's when it became evident just how bad it was. (I had to borrow one from a friend)
They claimed it was all ok, until I pulled my 4 other strats out of the back of my truck. I started to show them and that's when the yelling began.
Cut to the part where the cops came and after I filed a report and vice versa, I was nicely asked not to return and to file small claims court paperwork. (which I did)
I am in Scottsdale/Phoenix/AZ about 10x a year. How about I come down and show you personally? Then you can blow smoke up my ass while you try to play it yourself, that is if you can play at all. And if you give me any lip about a professional faqing up my vintage strat, I can manually inflate yours.
PS: Do casters come with your Marshall cabs or heads? I bet not.

Capt. Scott,
Wow,why the hostility? I'm sorry if your strat got buggered.A real tech would stand by thier work so ,if he didn't, then your anger towards him is justified.
My only two points were 1) I can't comment on work I haven't seen and 2) Yes I can correctly cut a nut. If I have failed in expressing this in a friendly manner, I apologize.
As to your other concerns, yes I am the tech.My member name is my real name. The store address in the add is the real address. The phone number is the real number. I'm usually there Tuesday through Saturday.I've played guitar since 1981.I also play electric bass and do reasonably well at mandolin, tenor banjo and square neck dobro.I play through a Boogie DC-5 combo.Stop by when your in town.I'd rather shake your hand and buy you a beer than bicker on the internet. You can decide for yourself if I'm really a jackass.
Thanks,Phil

Sounds fine to me, but the real test would be handing a damaged yet fixable instrument to Mr. Phil. He seems to have a good attitude though.
Captain, go beat that mofo, but don't shyt on Mr. Phil here.

Those (insert derogatory adjective here) people really did a poor job which basically threw me for a loop. I eat some of the blame, because I was dumb enough to just "toss it in a hard shell case" and not play it a while before I gave a it a clean bill of health.
OTHERWISE, don't stick up for another tech in another state you never even met. I mean wtf!!! You guys in a union or? lol
And that's the edited version..

Yeah but I am not the tech and I am not sticking up for some dumb ass I never even met.
WTF!
If I had a digital camera I'd send you a pic. It's enough to make you want to puke.
And to think some tech from 2k miles away wants us all "just to talk nice".
I think it's great to just say wonderful stuff about others, but if you do, then you can't stay way from the f**k like the tech that almost neutered my poor strat.
And for the record, I wouldn't take Philip my beater triangle to repair now..
The moral of the story is, "don't take your valued instrument to be repaired by these lackluster hacks who didn't stand behind their work." If you don't 100% guarantee your work, I have no time for you.
PS: After small claims I am 150$ richer, but still looking to remove their unwanted fingers for fun and games.
a job done at a reasonable cost = great
a job done correctly AND cheaply the first time = priceless
If you don't get it now Andragon, you may cease as you never will.

I got it before you did. You're the one who got screwed when you sent your guitar for repairs. I got friends who help me out when I got problems with my guitars
