Help! Our band is looking for a mixer that can record drums. Something with at least 12 ports. Thanks!

Why are you asking for a mixer, is this also for live use?
For recording you want an audio interface - a device that converts the audio signals to digital then delivers those to the recording device (computer most often these days) via USB or Firewire.
Suggest you do some reading over at the homerecording.com site.

There are mixers that offer multi-track interfacing, as well as mixers that have individual ouputs to send to an interface separately. I'm guessing the OP is not sure about recording needs.

Wouldn't you have to have 12 ports on
your interface if you were usin 12 mics
on your drumkit? If your using 12 mics
on a kit, wouldn't it be easier to run the
kit thru a mixer than line out to pa or audio
interface?

Lynard, not sure what you're saying - but its sure to confuse the OP if he returns!

If the guy wants to record 12 separate tracks he needs an interface with 12 inputs/outputs. A mixer with the same ability would work as well. This Allen and Heath should work, I think it has individual track output via USB and it's only $700: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ZED24/

The problem with a 'mixer' being used as an interface is all the extra electronics in there to mess up the signal.
12 mics is probably overkill for recording drums anyway, there is seldom need to put a mic on every tom.
Kick (2 if you've got double bass)
Snare
Hi Hat
2 overhead
2 room
Interfaces (or mixers) with 8 mic preamps are much easier to come by!
